For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Maggie Moore of Brookline, Missouri has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Kansas.
“So excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my swim and academic career at the University of Kansas! Very thankful for the opportunity and for my family, coaches and friends who have encouraged me along the way!! I am overjoyed to be a jayhawk!!! #rcjh!❤️💙”
Moore is a rising senior at New Covenant Academy in Springfield, Missouri, she also competes for Springfield Aquatics at the club level. At Springfield Aquatics, Moore is a multi-time USA Swimming Futures qualifier in the sprint freestyle and backstroke events. Last month at the Jenkins Sectional Meet, Moore was a finalist in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, where she finished 20th and 15th, respectively.
Best Times SCY:
- 50 freestyle – 23.50
- 100 freestyle – 53.12
- 100 backstroke – 55.74
- 200 backstroke – 2:07.99
Moore is a big pick-up for the Kansas women, especially given her potential relay value. Last season, Moore’s best time in the 50 freestyle would have ranked 5th on the roster, placing her just shy of a relay berth. Although her short course time in the 100 freestyle leaves her only 13th on the roster, her long course personal best converts to a 52.2, meaning that Moore definitely has room to improve her standings in that event. Moore’s best time in the 100 backstroke currently ranks her 4th on the Kansas roster, giving her a solid third event to add to her line-up.
At the 2021 Big 12 Championships, Moore would have qualified for the B-final of the 50 freestyle with her best time in the event. She actually would have placed even higher in the 100 backstroke, where her best time would have made the A-final. Kansas has two of the top 3 finishers in that event, which is a weaker event across the entire conference. At the meet, Kansas’ women finished 2nd overall to the University of Texas, a team that has been a dominant force in the Big 12 for several decades. However, by the time that Moore graduates in 2026, it is likely that Texas will no longer be in the conference, as the school is attempting to transfer to the SEC in 2025.
With her commitment, Moore is set to join Molly Robinson, Ainsley Dillon, Hailey Farrell, and Lydia Lafferty in Kansas’ class of 2026.
