Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mia Brown will continue her athletic and academic career at Georgetown University beginning in the fall of 2020.

Mia Brown has committed to the Big East’s Georgetown University for the 2020-2021 season. Brown, a member of the Ohio State Swim Club, shared the exciting news by saying, “I am extremely blessed to announce that I have verbally committed to further my academic and athletic career at Georgetown University! Thank you to my coaches, teammates, family, and friends who have supported me along the way. I am so excited for this awesome opportunity. Can’t wait to be a HOYA! #hoyasaxa

In February, Brown competed at the Central District Sectionals — Upper Arlington Girls. The Bishop Watterson High School junior swam the 50 free and the 100 free, earning a silver medal and a top-8 finish. Her 50 free time of 24.14 placed her second behind Riley Huddleston of Upper Arlington High School. Soon after her race, she stepped back on the block, touching 5th in the 100 fly. Only a half second separated Brown from silver medalist Caroline Porterfield. Brown also competed on the 200 medley and the 400 free relays for Bishop Watterson. The team earned silver medals for both relays, where Brown swam the fly leg on the medley and achored the 400 free relay.

In November, Brown picked up a few personal best times at the Ohio MAKO Tim Myers Senior meet. She competed in the 50, 100, and 200 free, the 50 and 100 fly, the 200 IM, and four relays. Her first best time of the meet was in the 100 free. Brown made it back in the B-final of the event, moving from 15th place in prelims to 13th in finals. Additionally, Brown moved up from her 3rd place seed after the prelims heats of the 50 fly to a gold-medal finish, touching 0.3 seconds ahead of her teammate Ava Lachey. Her final personal best swim was in the 200 free, where Brown earned 20th and dropped 1.4 seconds from her prelims time. Ohio State Swim Club’s women’s team took home first-place at the end of the weekend.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 fly – 24.98
  • 50 free – 23.54
  • 100 fly – 56.52
  • 100 free – 52.48
  • 50 breast – 31.60

Brown’s times would have placed her in the the B-final in the 100 free, and the A-final in 100 fly and 50 free at the 2019 Big East Conference Championships. She will be joining back and fly sprint specialist Bella Wylie as a member of Georgetown’s class of 2024. The women will get to train and compete alongside each other in the fly and free sprint events.
