…Minnesota is looking for a new assistant after Bill Tramel stepped down. Tramel was the Associate Head Coach at Minnesota for one season, and had 6 previous seasons as an assistant in the Twin Cities. He led the program’s recruiting efforts, and left quite a gift for whoever takes over that role next year with a great incoming class. That includes stud-Canadian breaststroker Kierra Smith, sprinter Lauren Votava, and Junior Nationals medalist Logan Redondo out of Mission Viejo…
…Dara Torres will be in College Station this weekend for a Senior Circuit Meet at Texas A&M. Because there is typically so much high-level talent in Texas, this circuit is a series of meets that the best-of-the-best high school, college, and pro swimmers use to test their conditioning – similar to what we see with meets like the SMOC in Califronia. This will be her last tuneup before trials at the end of June…
…This is a story we’ve been watch develop through the local news blotter for a while now, but Fox News (along with many other outlets) report that it’s now jumping into the national spotlight. 16-year old Mary Kate Callahan in Illinois has the support of state’s Attorney General, who is suing the Illinois High School Association because they refuse to establish athletic competition standards for students with disabilities. Callahan, who is paralyzed from the waist down, is forced to swim “exhibition” races for Fenwick High School in suburban Chicago. For those confined to wheel chairs for most of their lives, she has characterized swimming as an opportunity for to be on a level playing field with their peers…
…Michigan men’s head coach Mike Bottom took very little time in earning the trust of Milorad Cavic. He has been named the head coach of the Serbian Olympic Team that will include his newest Club Wolverine trainee Cavic. This makes an even 5 Olympic staffs for Bottom. Other big names on the Serbian team include Nada Higl and Velimir Stjepanovic…
…Division III diving will see a big change in their diving qualifying system this coming season, as the NCAA has approved the move to a “regional” qualifying system, similar to Division I’s “zone” system, as an alternative to the old video reviews. Coaches expressed the desire for a head-to-head competition to decide qualifiers….
…As the Florida Gulf Coast program’s reputation continues to rise, an Eagle freshman and incoming recruit cracked four National Records at the GCST Qualifier Meet in their home pool. Karen Vilorio broke the Honduras National Records in both the 200 back (2:22.50) and 100 back (1:06.18). Barbadian Lani Cabrera, who is part of a huge Neal Studd recruiting class and trains with the Davie Nadadores, broke her nation’s record in the 200 free with a 2:06.74 and the 400 free in 4:23.31…
FGCU! Really impressive recruiting a credit to staff’s hard work. Kudos to Neal & former assistant Elizabeth Lykins (who recently became the new Head @ start-up UNC-Ashville).
James Feigen with a 49.7 prelim 100 free. It will be interesting to see what he has for the evening.

Is Bill Tramel moving South (as in Tuscaloosa, Alabama) to join Dennis Pursley? Which coaches are being considered to complete the staff at Alabama?
Rick – not as far as I’m aware of. We have a HUGE name going to ‘Bama…but trying to get final confirmation before posting. It’s not going to be a surprise…but it is going to be a bit earth-shattering.
