Southern Methodist Adds Utah Transfer Robby King for 2021-22

Robby King, who graduated from the University of Utah this past spring, will head home to Dallas to swim as a graduate transfer at Southern Methodist University. He will join the men’s swimming and diving program for the 2021-22 season

“I chose SMU not only because of the renowned swim program, but because of the phenomenal school. I grew up in Dallas during middle school and high school, so this has been home to me for quite some time. Prior to SMU, I competed at University of Utah, where I was fortunate to become much faster as a swimmer. So, coming back to Dallas as a more developed person and swimmer is going to be exciting, especially with a great team this year. I look forward to joining the Master’s Program at the Cox School of Business and SMU Athletics. Let’s Go!”

King finished Dallas’ Highland Park High School in 2017 and went to Utah that fall. A free/back specialist, he finaled in the 200/500 free and 200 back at both the 2019 and 2020 Pac-12 Championships. He was a CSCAA Scholar All-American, a Pac-12 SALT (Student-Athlete Leadership Team) Representative, and a Pac-12 All-Academic team member. He also made the all-time top-10 lists in the 200/500 free and 200 back.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 free – 1:37.15
  • 500 free – 4:21.83
  • 200 back – 1:45.91

King will join an SMU squad that won the 2021 American Athletic Conference title, their first conference championship since 2013. His best 500 free time would have won at 2021 AACs, while his 200 free and 200 back times would have scored in the A finals.

He will suit up for the Mustangs with newcomers Aedan Lewis, Angus Corbeau, Ben Binder, Cole Bruns, Cotton Fields, Davis Edwards, Elijah Sohn, Joe Rusnock, Joshua Miller, Max Zuanich, Pierce Thionville, Rob McCall, Russell Exum, Rylan Stevenson, Samuel Tiblier, and Sawyer Inglis.
