Madyson Gomez of Cary, Illinois has given her verbal commitment for the 2019 recruiting class to in-state Southern Illinois University of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). Gomez is primarily a backstroker who swims for the Barrington Swim Club of the Illinois LSC. She is a recent graduate of Dundee Crown High School.

Gomez recently competed in the 2019 Southern Zone Sectional in Plantation, FL in both the 100- and 200-meter backstroke and the 100-meter breaststroke posting two career bests. In 2018, she finished 10th place at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Sectional Meet (pre-state level) in the 100 backstroke.
Best Times (SCY):
- 100 Backstroke: 59.91
- 200 Backstroke: 2:14.43
- 100 Breaststroke: 1:10.64
- 200 IM: 2:20.62
Gomez will come to campus this fall with the 5th best time in the 100 backstroke, 7th in the 200 backstroke, and 6th in the 100 breaststroke for the Salukis program based on team results from last season.
Inside the MVC, Gomez is on the outside looking in with regards to being a scoring threat. Her best conference finish using her current times would have been 28th place in the 100 backstroke. Last season, Southern Illinois finished 2nd place at the 2019 MVC Championship.
