Sophia Routzahn Verbals to University of New Hampshire

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tuscarora High School senior Sophia Routzahn has verbally committed to the University of New Hampshire for the fall of 2022.

“I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of New Hampshire to continue my academic and athletic career!! I want to give a big thanks to my family and coaches for getting me where I am today. I also want to shout out coach Josh and coach Mike for making the recruiting process as easy as possible and welcoming me to the team! I can’t wait to make UNH my home away from home! Go Wildcats!”

Routzahn swims club for the Frederick Area Swim Team. At the 2021 Futures Championships in Richmond, Virginia, she placed in the top 30 in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke. She also has earned Futures cuts in the 100 butterfly, 200 individual medley, and 400 individual medley.

Her best short course times are:

  • 100 breaststroke: 1:03.40
  • 100 butterfly: 57.12
  • 200 breaststroke: 2:20.87
  • 200 individual medley: 2:06.60
  • 400 individual medley: 4:30.68

The University of New Hampshire is a Division I school in the America East Conference (AEC). At the women’s 2021 AEC Championships, the Wildcats won the conference title.

At that meet, Routzahn would’ve scored second in the 100 breaststroke after UNH’s Jamy Lum, who will be a senior when Routzahn joins. Routzahn would also fall behind Lum, and now-graduated Miranda Bacon, in the 200 breaststroke, but she would have still scored fourth.

Routzahn would also have earned fourth place in the 100 butterfly after two UNH swimmers, and third in the 400 individual medley after another UNH swimmer. While UNH has strong swimmers in all of these fields, Routzahn will have the opportunity to build the team’s depth and rise through its ranks as its current stars graduate.

Routzahn joins commit Audrey Mahoney in the university’s class of 2026.
