The 2019 Euro Meet ended yesterday. The European elite swimmers have unleashed some quick swims.
At the beginning of the season most of the athletes are building more basic work and stress, testing their speed and endurance.
A few days after the launch of the new Powerskin Carbon-Air2 two arena athletes raced with a different tech suit.
In particular, Sarah Sjostrom and Katinka Hosszu wore a black suit, with the logo in blue, during the races on Saturday 26 January.
On her Instagram profile, Katinka Hosszu posted a photo wearing this tech suits completely different from the previous ones.
In the pic you can clearly see the two front panels positioned differently than the other suits already on the market.
Will there be the launch of a new tech suit?
No official words yet from arena on this, but we will keep you posted as new information is released.
This is what the FLSN (Luxembourg Swimming Federation), captured during the 2019 Euro Meet.
Arena is a Swimswam partner
Interesting. Having 2 pieces instead of 1 just seems unintuitive, somehow, like the lower jammer part will somehow always be in danger of bunching up or sliding down without a connection to the upper half. We’ll see how this plays out. I used to do ballet, wearing a separate leotard & tights & that was always an issue. But…completely different kinds of physical activity & movement environments.
Um, every single male swimmer manages to wear a jammer suit without it bunching up or sliding down. Do you have any idea how tight these suits are?!
RSGNSF is relating her leotard tight situation
As there are also unitards the comparison is not out of place . Male ballet dancers pay particular attention to this situation too so do not be so dismissive.
Girls in classical performance dance wear very lightweight stretch tights Under their leotards. Boys wear their ‘s over & they are a little thicker .( unless it’s Spartacus ! Of course I.might have to go & look closer .
2 similar fabrics will slip against each other so one has to have a grab factor . For the girls some of the current kneeskin are quite attractive esp with the ribbon piping but most are HIDEOUS .
All of the commentary is obviously from men. Women would love the opportunity to address what every tech suit lacks right now: a good fit. Long torso? that is a problem. Small hips? that’s a problem. Larger than average (for a swimmer) bust? that’s a problem. Certain suits fit certain body types. They are on to something here that female swimmers will love is my bet…
If the swimming suit changes are not about adding comfort or durability or improving the design to make it better looking, but is about the performance improvement then what was the reason to ban high-tech suits in 2010. I don’t see the logic. The only suit improvement that should be allowed compare to ancient traditions of Greek Olympic Games where athletes competed naked can be fig leaf. 😀
Honestly, I hope the ISL takes a more lax stance with suit composition and lengths; it would be really fun to see legskins make a return, and faster suits may help make swimming a more “watchable” sport for the average spectator, since we could see faster times at different points in the season
Adding more material to suits is almost assuredly going to have a negative effect on the watchability of the product for an average spectator.
Yea but they look cool
How?
Why not? FINA isn’t going to recognize this results anyway. Then why to not organize such a very profitable entertainment making a swimming competition the competition between sportswear companies and making swimmers a guinea pigs. I don’t see swimmers like Hosszu refusing to participate in such meets on moral or ethical basis. And believe me money will be very good. To avoid any legal problems they will call these competitions Test&Research and swimmers will be named Test drivers. Will you watch such competition? Sure you will. Me too.
I think there is no way to avoid this to happen if FINA loses its grip and approval rights of what can be produced and can be wearing
Will you watch such competition? Sure you will.
Watch? Sure. Pay to watch? Maybe not. I’m not sure where all this money is coming from.
How do you change the font? Thank you.

I have no issues with the fabric restrictions, but I do wish the length restrictions were removed, or at least made the same for men and women (ie, closed back torsos allowed for men, too).
The swimsuit is a two different pieces.
First you put a pair of high jammers, then you put on a carbon “training suit” over the jammers.
Aren’t double suits illegal?
looks like you can buy them from Arena USA website already. Both pieces marked as FINA APPROVED
