Snyders and Boyle each add another event to their schedules in Barcelona

On the third evening of the State New Zealand Open Championships both Glenn Snyders and Lauren Boyle added events to the schedule they will swim at the world championships.

Snyders qualified in the 50 breaststroke winning the event in a time of 27.39 ,which is the fourth fastest time swum in the world this year.

“I’m happy with that time. The 50 doesn’t matter so much, it’s just a one length sprint and a bit of fun,” he said.

After qualifying for the world championships in 100 breaststroke on the first night of the competition Snyders will attempt to add the final breaststroke event to his program in Barcelona on Thursday.

“It’s something I’ll do and see what happens. I haven’t put too much emphasis on the 200m but I’d like to go under the qualifying time,” said Snyders.

Boyle added the 200 freestyle to her plate for the world championships by winning the event in a time of 1:58.54. She has now qualified for the 200, 400 and 1500 freestyle and will swim the 800 freestyle on Wednesday and the 100 freestyle on Thursday.

“I really wanted to practice doing something hard every day and asking my body to do something that it is not used to,” said Boyle. “In the past I have had some problems backing up my races very well, so I thought if I hit it hard here every day, then it will help me when i get to the world championships.

“It was a consistent performance but I would have to say tonight’s race was probably the toughest as I think the 1500 took a bit out of me.”
