SMU Reels In Verbal Commitment from LIAC’s Annabelle Corcoran

Annabelle Corcoran, a senior at Port Washington High School in Port Washington, New York, has verbally committed to swim for Southern Methodist University, joining Arizona’s Olivia Grossklaus in the class of 2022.

“Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to Southern Methodist University! The amazing coaches, swimmers, and academic opportunity make SMU the perfect fit for me. I can’t wait to work with such a wonderful team and coaching staff. Thank you to my teammates, coaches, friends, and family for helping me get to where I am today. Go Mustangs! #ponyup”

Corcoran was a finalist in the 200 free and 500 free at the 2016 NYS Federation Girls Swimming Championships last November, placing 19th and 20th, respectively. She also anchored the Port Washington 200 free relay (25.45) in the non-scoring C final.

Corcoran swims year-round for Long Island Aquatic Club. Her best 500 free, 1650 free, and 200 back times come from the 2016 NCSA Spring Championship; she clocked her best 1000 time at the 2017 Senior Mets Winter Championships in February. This summer she improved her LCM times in the 50/100/200/400 free and 100/200 back.

Top SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 17:04.81
  • 1000 free – 10:24.51
  • 500 free – 4:59.73
  • 200 free – 1:53.41
  • 400 IM – 4:28.62

Corcoran would have been SMU’s second-highest scorer in the 1650 free at 2017 ACC Championships, coming in at 10th place. She would have just barely missed the B finals (ACC only scores two finals at conference championships) in the 500 free and 400 IM.
