DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s swimming and diving team won 14 events on its way to sweep double dual action against UIW and Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
The Mustangs defeated UIW 190-108 and OCU 217-65.
Lucrezia Napoletano, Jimena Leguizamon Leal and Jenna Watson combined for six event wins to lead the Mustangs in the pool. Napoletano took the top spot in the 50 free (23.53) and 200 free (1:50.86), Leguizamon Leal the 100 back (56.86) and 200 back (2:03.65) and Watson the 100 breast (1:04.75) and 200 IM (2:05.06).
The Mustangs also grabbed a victory in the 100 free from Tiffanie Ruan (53.05).
Hannah Lockyer completed the SMU sweep of breaststroke races, taking the 200 distance (2:21.05). In butterfly action, Maxine Parkinson (2:03.93) was victorious in the 200 and Johanna Gudmundsdottir in the 100 (56.70).
The Mustangs went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay to open the day with Leguizamon Leal, Maddy Lewis, Valentina Becerra and Gudmundsdottir combining for a 1:44.83 and the win. The event closed with the 200 free relay team of Napoletano, Gudmundsdottir, Indra Vandenbussche and Ruan winning in 1:34.09.
In diving action, both Mustangs came in above the NCAA Zone standard on 1 and 3 meter. It was the first standard for both this season on 3 meter. On 1 meter, Nicole Stambo (280.65) took the top spot followed by Jaclynn Fowler (280.58) in second, while Fowler won 3 meter (305.03) with Stambo (288.75) as the runner up.
The Mustangs are back in action Nov. 17-19 for the SMU Invitational. Action will stream on PonyUp TV.
DALLAS, Texas – The SMU men’s swimming and diving team finished 2-0 in Saturday’s dual action versus UIW and Oklahoma Christian. SMU picked up several victories on the day.
On the diving side, Peter Smithson earned a pair of NCAA Zone Standards and Dominic Hoefer earned a Zone Mark on 1 meter.
The Mustangs took the top three spots on 3 meter. Smithson finished in first place and earned his third NCAA Zone Standard of the year with a score of 376.88. Tyler Coffey’s 319.20 landed him in second place and Hoefer claimed the third spot with a score 317.03. On 1 meter, Smithson claimed first place with a score of 334.35 and Hoefer earned second place with a score of 308.40. Both performances earned the Mustang divers NCAA Zone Standards.
SMU’s 200 medley relay team started the day by taking first and second place. The winning group of Cole Bruns, Lance Butler, Riley Hill and Justin Baker covered the distance in 1:27.54. Jackson Skigen, Joe Rusnock, Russell Exum and Charlie Kaye earned a runner-up finish with a time of 1:29.03. The Mustang relay team of Sage Sungail, Justin Baker, Charlie Kaye and Evan McCormick won the 200 freestyle relay, touching the wall at 1:19.77. Cole Bruns, Lance Butler, Riley Hill and Cole Parnell finished second place with a time of 1:20.35.
Colin Feehery had several impressive performances on the day, claiming the top spot in three events. Feehery won the 1000 freestyle (9:10.08), 200 breaststroke (1:58.02) and 200 IM (1:47.12).
Sungail continued his impressive freshman season, taking first place in the 200 freestyle, swimming a time of 1:37.83. Exum’s 1:38.88 earned him a runner up finish in the same race. Additionally, Sungail claimed the top spot in the 100 fly, swimming a 48.32.
In the 100 yard backstroke, the Mustangs claimed the first and second spots. Bruns 48.03 earned him the top spot and Hill’s 48.70 landed him in second place.
Fields touched the wall first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:46.42. Additionally, Fields earned his second first place finish in the 200 backstroke, swimming a time of 1:46.86. John Culver was the runner up with a time of 1:48.38.
Justin Baker was victorious in the 50 freestyle, covering the distance in 20.16. Charlie Kaye claimed second place with a time of 20.53.
