Day 9 Finals Relay Line-Ups

Lane 1 – France: Emma Terebo, Charlotte Bonnett, Marie Wattel, Beryl Gastaldello

Mary-Ambre Moluh’s 53.65 from prelims gets replaced with Gastaldello’s 53.06 from the mixed medley as the French chase their record of 3:56.36 from 2022.

Lane 2 – Japan:Rio Shirai, Satomi Suzuki, Mizuki Hirai, Rikako Ikee

Japan makes no changes to their line-up.

Lane 3 – China: Wan Letian, Tang Qianting, Zhang YufeiYang Junxuan

China builds their relay around Tang (the 100 breast silver medalist) and brings in Zhang who won bronze in the 100 fly and Yang who anchored Chinese mixed medley last night in sub-52.

Lane 4 – Austalia:  Kaylee McKeown, Jenna Strauch, Emma McKeon, Mollie O’Callaghan

Australia reloads their entire team and will be led off with double backstroke gold medalist McKeown, but Strauch remains the key leg.

Lane 5 – Canada: Kylie Masse, Sophie Angus, Maggie MacNeil, Summer McIntosh

Canada keeps only Angus from the prelims and opts to use McIntosh (winner of the 200 Fly and 200/400 IM) on the anchor.

Lane 6 – USA: Regan Smith, Lilly King, Gretchen Walsh, Torri Huske

Entirely expected wholesale swap of the relay. The first three legs are all individual WR holders, and Huske has been on fire, so this relay should be good.

Lane 7 – Sweden : Hanna Rosvall, Sophie Hansson, Louise HanssonSarah Sjostrom

Sweden could have played around with the line-up or brought in Michele Coleman but will swim the same quartet as they did in the prelims.

Lane 8 – Netherlands: Maaike de Waard, Tes Schouten, Tessa Giele, Marrit Steenbergen

As expected, the Dutch make no changes, and keep de Waard in the backstroke and opt not to use Toussaint,

I was astonished to hear Rowdy Gaines live commentary that it was appropriate to have the final event be wrapped up by the “best female swimmer for the United States, Torri Huske”. Enthusiasm is great, and I love the Rowdy Gaines commentary. I’ve even heard Rowdy himself say Katie dominance is sometimes overlooked because she made incredible feel so ordinary. And here, in my opinion, is exactly what you just did, Rowdy. Katie Ledecky will be talked about fifty years from now. Yeah — words matter. This is significantly more thought about Rowdy’s sentence than Rowdy put into his sentence. Sometimes we can just ignore Rowdy’s excited exclamations. They’re rarely rooted in reality.

Brittany Maclean has everyone in Canada thinking we could medal in this. I guess with a DQ it’s possible. Everyone thinks Summer will get her fifth medal 🙃🙃🙃
