Slater and Thomas pulled out of Glasgow 2015

Steph Slater and Jack Thomas have been forced to pull out of the IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow next month.

Slater had surgery earlier this year and the competition came around too quickly in her rehab for her to be at her best for the competition. Thomas has suffered a wrist injury and will be working through rehab to ensure he is at his best for next season.

On her withdrawal Slater said: “I’m really disappointed to have to pull out of the World Championship team. I have been working really hard to get back to full fitness but Glasgow came too soon for me to be at my best.

“The team around me have been fantastic and have been supporting me every step of the way. My focus now is on the new season and qualifying for Rio and ensuring I am stronger than I was before, so that I am at my best come the big day next year.”

Thomas commented: “Returning to the pool where I won my first Commonwealth medal in was something I had dreamed of but unfortunately I just won’t be fit enough to race like I would want to.

“I really want to compete in Rio. I didn’t compete in London so Rio has been my focus. I will do everything I can to make sure I can get there.”

British Para-Swimming Head Coach Rob Greenwood said: “It’s disappointing that Steph and Jack won’t be part of our team for Glasgow.

“Our support team and coaches have been working hard to get Steph back fit for the IPC worlds after her surgery, but unfortunately it will come around a little too early for her. Jack is working through his rehab plan and our medical team is supporting to make sure he is ready for the upcoming season.

“Steph’s, Jack’s  and our focus is still firmly set on Rio 2016 where we are aiming for our team to be the best prepared they have ever been for a Paralympics.”
