Sharae Zheng Earns Mountain West Diver Of The Week

Boise State senior Brittany Aoyama is the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, while Nevada junior Sharae Zheng has earned MW Women’s Diver of the Week honors for competition ending on January 22, 2017. It is the fourth accolade for Aoyama this season and the 11th of her career. For Zheng, it is her third award this season and the fourth of her career.

The 2017 Mountain West Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 15-18 at the Texas A&M Natatorium in College Station, Texas.

WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

BRITTANY AOYAMA, BOISE STATE

Senior, Stockton, California / Linden HS

  • Earned seven first-place finishes as Boise State beat Wyoming, 173-127, on January 20 and won a double-dual against nationally-ranked Denver (161.5-131.5) and Colorado Mesa (265-35) on January 21 during a Front Range road trip.
  • Won the 100-yard butterfly during both events with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 53.81 (a) at Denver and a time of 55.06 (a) at Wyoming.
  • Took first place in the 100-yard freestyle on both days, recording an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 49.67 (a) at Denver and a 50.41 (a) at Wyoming.
  • Both ‘B’ cut times rank in the top three in the Mountain West this season – second for the 100-fly and third for the 100-free.
  • Against Wyoming, won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.13 and swam the leadoff leg for the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:28.05).
  • Won the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.54 (a)) against Denver and CMU and swam the third leg for the second-place 400-yard medley team (3:45.32).

 

WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK

SHARAE ZHENG, NEVADA

Junior, Chengdu, China / Sport School of Sichuan Province

  • Won the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events as Nevada defeated San José State, 179-118, on January 21.
  • Scored a 400.28 off of the 3-meter board, the second time this season she has hit the 400+ mark.
  • Posted a 339.53 in the 1-meter event.
  • Both marks are NCAA Zone qualifying scores.
