Shannon Foster Banned By USA Swimming For Involvement In Weddle Case

Shannon Foster, a swim coach in North Carolina, has been added to USA Swimming’s banned list after police say she knew fellow coach Nathan Weddle was sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.

Foster was a coach at Capital Area Swim Team as well as the Oak City Rays in Raleigh, NC. At Capital Area Swim Team, she coached alongside Weddleand the two were romantically involved. The 43-year-old Weddle was arrested in late 2017 and accused of having sex with an underage swimmer. He was added to USA Swimming’s banned list starting on January 24.

Foster, 44, was arrested in March for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. According to The News & Observer, police say Foster knew that Weddle had sent the child a text message saying “I love you,” and had become angry and yelled at the child over the telephone. Foster reportedly told the girl that she had ruined her relationship with Weddle. Foster is now under prosecution for knowing about Weddle’s abuse of the girl but not sharing that information with authorities.

Foster has since joined Weddle on USA Swimming’s list of permanently banned individuals. Her ban, also for a violation of SafeSport code, took effect on April 11.

Every pervert ruins it for all others trying to coach and help swimmers. Coached 35 years and no one ever abused anyone. Lost a job because I said nice suit to a senior who took it as a slight. Just gotten out of hand and I would not encourage anyone to coach any more unless you want to stand back 25 feet and dictate workouts. Got to watch everything and anything you say. Swimming coaching used to be fun and the interaction was great. Now everything has changed and everything must be guarded every moment you coach. Good luck to every coach but not the same anymore!

Amazing and sickening that she would learn of the abuse and consider the child a rival and not a victim…

North Carolina isn’t all Hicksville and gun-toters.
Please don’t add a whole ‘nother layer of inappropriateness to this horrific dateline scenario.
