Shaine Casas continued his fantastic weekend at College Station, racing to a huge new PR in the 200 back after clocking a 1:57.70 LCM in prelims. In finals, Casas kicked it up a notch, speeding to a 1:38.21 to win the event by 4 seconds. The time marked a substantial drop for Casas, who came into the night with a personal best of 1:39.84, which he swam at SECs last season. Casas’ performance tonight vaulted him into the all-time top 10 NCAA performers list, landing him all the way up at 7th.

Here is the current list of all-time top 10 performers in the 200 back:

RANK NAME TIME
1 Ryan Murphy 1:35.73
2 John Shebat 1:36.42
3 Austin Katz 1:36.45
4 Tyler Clary 1:37.58
5 Ryan Lochte 1:37.68
6 Patrick Mulcare 1:37.80
7 Shaine Casas 1:38.21
8 Drew Teduits 1:38.28
9 Bryce Mefford 1:38.48
10 Jacob Pebley 1:38.50

Ryan Murphy holds the NCAA Record with that 1:35.73, that no other swimmer has come within half a second of – yet. Of the active NCAA swimmers on this list, Casas is now 2nd, behind only Austin Katz. Still, Katz has nearly 2 full seconds over Casas at this point. Interestingly, Casas came home faster on the last 50 tonight than Katz did at NCAAs when he swam his 1:36.45. Casas was 24.95 at the end, compared to 25.13 from Katz.

There should be an asterisk for rubber body suits. Apples and oranges don’t belong on the same list of rankings.

The only rubber suit is Clary, and he holds a faster LCM time than Murphy
