The Singapore Swimming Association will kick off their first “Swim with us by Sergio Lopez” coaching clinic this Friday, June 5.
Singaporean coach Sergio Lopez will be leading the clinic which will also feature University of Texas head coach Eddie Reese. Reese, a three-time U.S Olympic team head coach, has plenty in common with Lopez considering that they both coach famed Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling.
Lopez is the longtime coach of Schooling who has recently become the golden boy of Singaporean swimming. The two first worked together at the Bolles School in the United States before Lopez left his position there to take over as the head of the National Training Center program in Singapore.
After already proving himself on the international scene, Schooling signed to swim with Reese as a Texas Longhorn. Most recently he competed successfully at the men’s NCAA Championships in Iowa City, Iowa.
With the two being responsible for shaping Singapore’s top swimmer, their presence fits in perfectly with the SSA’s recently launched “Swim With Us” campaign. The campaign is a series of community outreach programs that engage the public to connect with those involved in high-level aquatic sports in Singapore.
Singapore is slowly becoming a hot-bed for international talent following Lopez’s decision to take over the National Training Center. Most recently, American breaststroke star Kevin Cordes decided to move his training to Singapore in order to swim under Lopez.
You guys taking masters swimmers? LOL.
Congratulations Coach Lopez, hope you and your family are doing great, hope to see you again somewhere soon.
Im pretty sure I would drop time just being in their presence…
