SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s swimming and diving team competed in two scrimmages Friday against both Vanderbilt University and Seattle University.
The Aztecs opened the day with a shared practice/scrimmage with the Commodores at the Aztec Aquaplex. Then, at 2:30 p.m., SDSU, Vandy and Seattle all hit the water for a 10-event non-scoring meet.
SDSU took home the top efforts in all 9 individual events, with senior Courtney Vincent and sophomore Kristina Murphy both leading the way with top marks in two events each. Vincent finished first in both the 100 individual medley and the 100 freestyle swims while Murphy earned the fastest times in both the 200 IM and 200 breast. Senior McKenna Meyer started the day off with the fastest time in the 500 free and sophomores Mia Ryan and Sammy Geyer followed with the best efforts in the 200 free and 50 free, respectively. Senior Kassidy Henson recorded the best 200 fly swim, while freshman Riley Tapley touched the wall first in the 200 back. The only relay action of the day was a 200-freestyle effort in which Vanderbilt earned the fastest mark with the Aztecs finishing in second.
The Scarlet and Black now break until the new year, next competing Jan. 3 in a pentathlon at Aztec Aquaplex against Air Force, the University of San Diego, San Jose State and Incarnate Word.

SAN DEIGO, Calif. — A trio of Redhawks highlighted Friday’s exhibition meet, as Seattle U swam took on Vanderbilt and San Diego State at the Aztec Aquaplex, wrapping up its winter training session in southern California.
Allison Plamondon placed in the 50-yard freestyle, taking third as she clocked in at 24.77. The race was tightly contested as Plamondon was just a tenth of seconds shy silver and three-tenths off the first-place pace.
Then in the 200 breaststroke, Danika Himes added another third-place finish for the Redhawks notching a time of 2:23.37. This too was a close race as Himes was roughly 1.5-seconds shy of second.
Another notable Redhawk performance on the day belonged to Tessa Oliver in the 200 butterfly. Despite finishing outside the top three in the race, Oliver managed to set a new season-best time for herself as she came in at 2:12.84, trimming .22-seconds of her previous mark.
Following the holiday break, Seattle U will resume regular season action on January 11 when it hosts Whitworth University at the Redhawk Center. Events for that day are slated for begin at 1:00 pm.
