The WAC champion Northern Arizona women have added 2 members to their recruiting class, as Scottsdale Aquatic Club teammates Sam Milewski and Maddie Seidl have verbally committed to join the Lumberjacks next season. Milewski will be graduating from Arcadia High School at the end of this school year, while Seidl will graduate from Basha High School.
Sam Milewski
Milewski is primarily a freestyler, and her typical event schedule ranges from the 50 to 1650 free. Last season, she placed in the top 10 of the 200 and 500 freestyles at the Arizona Division 1 State Championships. She then went on to break 1:54 in the 200 free for the first time with her 1:53.37 relay leadoff at the 2016 Arizona Senior State Championships.
Milewski had a very successful long course season, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see her make some big drops in her yards times in the coming months. Over the summer, she posted new best times in the 100 free (1:00.21), 200 free (2:08.27), 400 free (4:27.56), 800 free (9:06.65), and 1500 free (17:16.93).
Milewski’s Top Times:
Event | Best time |
50 free | 25.44 |
100 free | 54.09 |
200 free | 1:53.37 |
500 free | 4:58.06 |
1650 free | 17:23.03 |
Milewski should have an immediate impact for the Lumberjacks at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. Her time in the 500 free would’ve been fast enough to make the championships final at last season’s WAC meet. Additionally, her times in the 200 free and 1650 free would’ve been good enough to score with a top 16 finish.
Maddie Seidl
Seidl was a finalist at last season’s Arizona Division 1 State Championships, where she placed 8th in the 200 IM with a personal best 2:08.45. Her 2nd event was the 100 fly, in which she placed 9th. Throughout the season, Seidl posted best times in several other events, including the 100 free (53.58), 200 free (1:55.11), 100 breast (1:08.23), and 200 breast (2:25.65).
Seidl’s Top Times:
Event | Best Time |
100 fly | 57.07 |
200 fly | 2:04.94 |
200 breast | 2:25.65 |
200 IM | 2:08.45 |
400 IM | 4:31.90 |
Seidl’s versatility would’ve allowed her to score in 5 different events at last season’s WAC Championship meet: the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 breast. In the 400 IM, she’s particularly dangerous, as she’s within tenths of what it took to make the A-final at 2016 WACs.
