Sarah Bacon, Carson Tyler Lead After Individual Semifinals at USA Diving Olympic Trials

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sarah Bacon (Indianapolis, Ind./Minneapolis, Minn.) and Carson Tyler (Moultrie, Ga./Bloomington, Ind.) lead the field after Thursday’s individual women’s 3-meter and men’s 10-meter semifinals at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving.

Scores from the semifinals will carry over into Saturday’s finals. The top two 3-meter divers and the top 10-meter diver will qualify to the U.S. Olympic Team.

Bacon finished the 3-meter semifinals with 341.25 points. Alison Gibson (Austin, Texas) sits in second place with 317.70 points, 4.25 points ahead of Sophie Verzyl (Columbia, S.C./Indianapolis, Ind.). Krysta Palmer (Reno, Nevada), the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist on 3-meter, is fourth at 299.30.

Bacon will be looking to qualify for a second event in Paris after already earning a spot on the team in synchronized 3-meter on Monday. She was consistent in the individual semifinal and was the only diver to score more than 60 points on all five dives. She opened the semis with 72 points on her inward 2 ½ somersaults pike and scored no lower than 63 points.

Tyler scored 477.20 points in the men’s 10-meter semifinal, highlighted by 94.35 points on a front 4 ½ tuck and 86.40 points on a back 2 ½ with 2 1/2 twists. He’ll carry a 47.30-point lead into the final. Tyler Wills (Carmel, Ind./West Lafayette, Ind.) scored 429.90 points for second, with Brandon Loschiavo (Huntington Beach, Calif./West Lafayette, Ind.) in third at 424.75. Jordan Rzepka (Solon, Ohio/West Lafayette, Ind.) scored 414.65 points for fourth.

Scores from the semifinals will carry over into the final. Two women’s 3-meter divers will qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team, with one spot available in men’s 10-meter.

The 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving run through June 23. Individual competition continues Friday with Thursday’s preliminaries and semifinals in men’s 3-meter and women’s 10-meter.
