San Diego State Earns Verbals from Elli Ferrin and Zeynep Odabasi

San Diego State University women’s swimming and diving team received verbal commitments from Turkey’s Zeynep Odabasi and Bend, Oregon’s Elli Ferrin for the class of 2021.

Zeynep Odabasi

“I’am 17 years old and from Turkey. My main events are 100,200 and 400 freestyle where I have a lot of national records whereas Balkan records and multiple of international medals. One of them including world high school olympics, which I came 3rd place in 200 freestyle. I made my commitment to SDSU and I’am so excited and thrilled to be joining one of the quickest rising programs in division 1.” [sic]

Odabasi represented Turkey at the 2015 European Games in Baku, where she competed in heats of the 100m free (25th), women’s 4x100m free (9th), 800 free (39th), mixed 4x100m free (8th), 200m free (38th), women’s 4×100 medley (5th), and mixed 4×100 medley (6th), as well as the finals of the mixed 4x100m free (7th), women’s 4x100m medley (8th), and mixed 4x100m medley (6th).

Her best LCM times (converted to SCY) are:

  • 50 free – 27.68 (24.21)
  • 100 free – 58.21 (50.99)
  • 200 free – 2:04.46 (1:49.24)
  • 400 free – 4:32.59 (5:05.42)

Elli Ferrin

Ferrin is a senior at Bend High School, and the Athlete of the Meet at the 2017 OSAA Class 5A State Championships in February. In four years as a Lava Bear, she has won 6 individual Oregon 5A individual titles and 6 relay events. As a senior she won the 50 free (24.15) and 100 back (54.91) and led off the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Ferrin swims year-round for Bend Swim Club and was a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200m back. Her best SCY times are:

  • 50 back – 25.61
  • 100 back – 53.65
  • 200 back – 1:58.61
  • 200 IM – 2:04.66
  • 400 IM – 4:30.40
  • 50 free – 24.15
  • 100 free – 52.72

Ferrin and Odabasi will join Ava Howard in the SDSU class of 2021.
