LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team, led by Head Coach Rory Coleman, travels to Siena on Saturday for a 1 p.m.meet. The Red Flash competes in its final road meet of the season.
Saint Francis improved to 6-7 last Saturday with a 158-88 win over Lock Haven. The Red Flash won 12 of 14 events and had two of the top three finishers in seven different events.
SFU took the top two places in the 200-yard Medley, with the team of freshman Amanda Crnic (Conway, Ark./Conway), sophomoreMary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic), sophomore Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) and freshman Rory O’Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) combining for a time of 1:57.50. The Red Flash also won the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, with Crnic, Kish, junior Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) and freshmanStaci Shoemaker (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) teaming up for a pace of 1:46.51.
Sophomores led the way in the individual events.
Emma Karell (Norrtlje, Sweden/Tby Swim Club) won three events on the night, placing first in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:08.84), 500-yard Freestyle (5:18.33) and 200-yard IM (2:14.61).
Lafferty, a three-time NEC Swimmer of the Week, was the top finisher in two events. The sophomore won the 200-yard Butterfly, with a time of 2:13.32, and the 200-yard Backstroke, with a pace of 2:14.84.
Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) also had a strong performance on the day with first place finishes in the 1000-yard Freestyle (11:28.29) and 100-yard Butterfly (1:02.18), as well as a second place finish in the 200-yard Butterfly (2:23.53).
Kish earned victories in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 25.48, and the 200-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 2:28.57.
On the season, Lafferty is among the Top 10 in the NEC in five events, including the 50 Freestyle (9th; 24.05), 100 Freestyle (7th; 52.26), 200 Freestyle (6th; 1:53.27), 500 Freestyle (6th; 5:05.51) and 100 Butterfly (10th; 59.08).
Karell is among the NEC leaders in the 200 Breaststroke (6th; 2:25.88), 200 Butterfly (9th; 2:10.95) and 400 IM (7th; 4:37.86).
The Saints are 7-4 this season, with wins over Assumption, Fairfield, Holy Cross, LIU Brooklyn, Manhattan, Monmouth and Niagara.
