MILFORD, Conn.– The Sacred Heart University swimming and diving team wrapped up it’s annual pentathlon at the McCann Natatorium in Milford, Connecticut on Saturday.
“I was very happy and proud with the energy on the deck for this inter-squad scrimmage which we have every year to kick off our season” stated head coach John Spadafina. “In a college format you do not swim 5 events in 2 hours, let alone events you may not specialize in. The coaching staff and I were very happy top to bottom with what we saw in the water and on the boards and we are looking forward to kicking off the season next week.
Junior Casey Barrett was named the champion of the Pentathlon as she won the 100 fly, 100 backstroke, and set a new record in the 200 IM. In the 100 breaststroke, first-year Rosemery Nieto set a new pentathlon record while Alivia Gibson clinched first in the 100 meter freestyle. In diving, sophomore Olivia McNicholas set a new pentathlon record in the 1 meter dive in the five dive format and was named the diving champion. First-year Emma Chambers clinched the runner up in the swimming races while Nicole Tingley clinched third place.
The team kicks off the regular season on Friday, October. 8 when the team travels to Fairfield. The meet is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
