The Russian quartet of Vladimir Morozov, Vladislav Grinev, Arina Surkova and Maria Kameneva closed out the penultimate night of finals at the European Short Course Championships with a bang, breaking the Continental Record in the mixed 4×50 freestyle relay.
Morozov opened things up in a blistering 20.65, the only lead-off swimmer sub-21, and then Grinev equalled that time with a flying start as they maintained a slight edge over France, who had Florent Manaudou drop a 20.09 swimming second for one of the fastest splits of all-time.
Surkova split 23.87 to put them second to the French going into the anchor, and then Kameneva clocked 23.14, the second-fastest female split in the field, to bring them in for gold and a final time of 1:28.31.
That edges out the previous European and Championship Record of 1:28.39 set by the Netherlands at the 2017 Championships in Copenhagen. That mark was set by Nyls Korstanje, Kyle Stolk, Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Femke Heemskerk.

The Russians also took out their previous National Record, which stood at 1:28.53 from the last edition of this meet in 2017.
Great Britain nabbed the silver medal in a time of 1:28.64, led by Anna Hopkin who had the top female leg in 23.13, and then France settled for bronze in 1:28.86. Both of those swims were National Records.
