Romania & Turkey Make Medal Table Moves On Day 4 Of 2024 European Junior Championships

2024 EUROPEAN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

There was a shift among the top 3 performing nations on day 4 of the 2024 European Junior Championships.

Although Italy continued to set itself apart as the country with the most pieces of hardware with 14, Romania and Turkey made their moves with just 2 days of action remaining.

16-year-old Robert-Andrei Badea already won the boys’ 200m IM here but doubled up with gold in the 400m IM with a new championship record.

He topped the podium in a result of 4:14.37 to take down an 11-year-old meet record and establish a new Romanian national record.

Badea helped Romania earn a medal in every color on night 4, with teammates Alexandru Constantinescu earning bronze in the boys’ 200m backstroke and Aissia Claudia Prisecariu snagging silver in the girls’ 200m back.

Turkey did damage on the boys’ side, with Doruk Yogurtcuoglu grabbing gold in the boys’ 200m breast and Onur Ege Oksuz collecting bronze in the boys’ 400m IM.

Other nations saw their squads claim their first gold of these championships on night 4.

John Shortt of Ireland got it done for gold in the boys’ 200m backstroke to earn the nation’s first European Junior Championships gold since 2017.

Germany’s Lena Ludwig topped the girls’ 200m breast to get a gold on the board and Estella Llum Tonrath did the same for Spain in the girls’ 200m backstroke.
