Ilhabela, which is Portuguese for “beautiful island”, is both an archipelago and a city four miles off the coast of São Paulo. Though the island is called Ilhabela, it’s official name is lha de São Sebastião (St. Sebastian Island). The municipality of Ilhabela is made up of three other islands and six islets.

A population of just over 32,000, during the holiday months up to 100,000 people are on the island as it is a popular tourist destination. It is a popular place for sailing, scuba diving and free diving, and has 41 beaches. Whale watching is also very popular with many different diverse types.
