Rio Day 2 Olympic Scratch/Add List: Efimova in 1BR, Coleman Out of 1BK

2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES

As we have covered previously and extensively, Russia’s Yulia Efimova will be competing in the women’s 100 breaststroke today. She comes in seeded with the second-fastest time (1:05.70), behind only Lilly King of the U.S. (1:05.20).

Russia’s seventeen-year-old Daria Ustinova has been reinstated into the women’s 100 backstroke, having been cleared by FINA and the IOC to compete just two days ago in the same decision that freed her teammate Efimova.

Ustinova now sits seeded sixth in the event (heat 3, lane 6) with a 59.78 seed time. She is one of fourteen swimmers to come in with a seed time under a minute.

Sweden’s indispensable relay mainstay Michelle Coleman has scratched the 100 back, after coming in with a FINA B seed time of 1:00.55. This isn’t much of a surprise, since Coleman is much better known as a freestyler; she will be competing in the 200 free tomorrow and the 100 free Wednesday. In the 200 free, she will swim in the circle-seeded heats right by the side of favorite Katie Ledecky.

In the men’s 200 free, Pieter Timmers of Belgium has scratched after coming in with a FINA A seed time of 1:47.34. Another swimmer with a 1:47, Jan Switkowski of Poland, is also out of the event. His only other event of the week is men’s 200 fly.

Brazil’s Manuella Lyrio has dropped the women’s 400 free. She will swim the 200 tomorrow.

Other scratches:

  • Andrea Murez of Israel has scratched the women’s 100 back (her seed time was 1:02.23), but she is slated to swim the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles later this week.
  • Bakr Salam Ali Al-Dulaimi of Iraq is out of the men’s 200 free after coming in with 1:56.23.

I hope the audience booed Yuliya so hard before the race that she false start and DQed.

It is time! Hopefully Yulia was able to train through all this adversity placed upon her and can rise to the occasion. Could be one of the great stories of these games if she can pull off double gold.

If Yulia is fit I think that Ruta will crumble under the pressure.

She didn’t when she was 15, so why would she now?

If anything Ruta will be more motivated to beat her.

Well she better be fit otherwise she cheated for nothing. I wonder how she’s upped her “supplement” regiment coming into the games if she’s doped well enough I predict a world record of 59.98.
