Rice’s Hayon, Portello Collect AAC Weekly Swimmer of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving awards.

SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Arielle Hayon, Senior, Rice
Hayon won two events against SMU on November 9, including the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 53.79, the top time in the conference this season. She also won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:00.44.

FRESHMAN SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ava Portello, Rice
Portello captured two events against SMU on November 9 with both times ranking first in the conference this season. She won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.95 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.46.

DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sydney Guidara, Sophomore, North Texas
Guidara earned NCAA Zone qualification scores on both springboard events against Rice on November 8. She won the 3-meter event with a school-record score of 350.78 and placed second in the 1-meter event with 304.80 points.

FRESHMAN DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brooke Megdall, FIU
Megdall competed at the South Florida Diving Invitational this past weekend, placing fourth in the 1-meter event with a score of 247.13. She also placed fifth on 3-meter (251.10 points) and platform (178.05 points).
