HOUSTON – Rice won ten of eleven swim events on the way to a convincing 152-85 Conference USA dual meet victory over visiting North Texas Friday afternoon at the Lamar High School Natatorium in Houston.
Led by the trio of Marta Cano-Minarro, Kate Nezelek and Zoe Spitz, who all won an individual event in addition to swimming on one of the two winning Rice relays, the Owls were firmly in control. The Blue & Gray in fact went 1-2-3 in four of the meet’s events and junior Hannah Sumbera led a 1-2-3-4 Rice finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Rice is now 5-1 in six dual meets this season.
In order to avoid the inclement weather in Houston on Friday, the venue for Rice’s home meet vs. North Texas was changed from the Owls’ Competition Pool to the new Lamar H.S. Natatorium. Rice returns to the same LHS facility for the second time in as many days with dual meet meet against longtime rival SMU on Saturday (Jan. 11). Start time against the Mustangs is set for 4 pm.
