Registration Open For European Aquatics Coaching Clinic For High Performance Swimming

The detailed program and registration details are now available for the European Aquatics Coaching Clinic for High Performanjce Swimming – “Bridging the Gap between science and training” – a new initiative aimed at scientists and coaches at elite level and supported by World Aquatics (AQUA).

The clinic will take place from 5 to 7 September 2023 at the Faculty of Sports Science, University of Leipzig as part of the XIVth Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming (BMS) Symposium.

LEN President Antonio Silva said; “I would like to thank the LEN Coaching & Education Commission, as well as our partners AQUA, BMS and the University of Leipzig for their hard work in putting together this Clinic. It is a key priority of LEN’s strategic plan to bring together the best sport science know-how and support our elite athletes in their constant pursuit of better performances. This is the first in what will be an ongoing series of clinics and I encourage as many people as possible to register and attend.”

Timetable and Keynote Speakers for European Aquatics Coaching Clinic

5 September (13:00-18:30):

  • Opening ceremony (representatives of LEN, Word Aquatics, Leipzig University, BMS Steering Group).
  • Michael Peyrebrune (British Swimming, GB): “Sports science application: examples of research that has driven best practice in British Swimming in the last 10 years.”
  • Lars Johansen (Danish Swimming Federation, DEN): “Interventions to enhance sleep volume and quality for the Danish Olympic swim team before and during the 2020 Tokyo games.”
  • Santiago Veiga (Polytechnic University of Madrid, ESP): “An in-depth look at the fastest components of swimming races.”

6 September (09:00-12:00):

  • Sander Schreven & Roald van der Vliet (InnoSportLab, NED): “Starts and Turns in Swimming: Applying Science to Practice.”
  • James Gibson (World Aquatics, GB): “Race analysis data and its application to the daily training of elite sprint athletes.”

7 September (12:00-14:30):

  • Pool side demonstration and engagement with industry partners.
