Lincoln, Neb.- A record 54 Husker alumni returned to the Devaney Natatorium on Saturday morning for Nebraska’s 12th annual Alumni Meet. Nebraska earned a victory over the Alumni for a second straight season.
Nebraska was led by Taryn Collura against the Alumni, with Collura securing victories in both the 100-yard butterfly and 25-yard freestyle. Three other current Huskers earned victories for Nebraska. Jacqueline Juffer (50-yard backstroke), Morgan McCafferty (100-yard backstroke) and Jordan Ehly (100-yard breaststroke) all claimed first place finishes.
Nebraska also had a strong showing in the relay events, sweeping both races. The 200-yard medley relay team of McCafferty, Ehly, Lindsay Helferich and Collura earned the Huskers’ first victory, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Collura, Kaylyn Flatt, Sam Hardewig and Anna McDonald completed the sweep for Nebraska.
Mike Irvin earned victories in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard individual medley. The former All-American has competed in and won an event in all 12 Alumni Meets. Allan Kelsey (100-yard freestyle) and Anthony Rezek (50-yard breaststroke) added victories for the Alumni Saturday morning.
Following today’s meet, Nebraska will have a busy week taking on both Northern Iowa and South Dakota State the following weekend. On Friday, Oct. 30, the Huskers will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on Northern Iowa for Nebraska’s first road meet of the season. The next day Nebraska will return home to take on South Dakota State on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Natatorium.
