Swim Across America Raleigh is this weekend.
For Team YOTA, Anil Chintapalli has raised the most amount of money for his team at $1,250.00. He is swimming in the relay for swim across America in honor of his grandmother who is fighting the battle with bile duct cancer and in memory of his grandfather. He loves to swim because it is lots of fun, and he has wanted to swim on YOTA since he was about four taking lessons at the Cary YMCA and doing the YOTA stroke school. He likes to work hard and doing his strokes correctly and his favorite stroke is butterfly.

The Raleigh Swim Across America Event – The Triangle Indoor Water Festival — is this weekend! Swimmers all over the Triangle Area are hard at work to help raise money for the Cavanagh Research Lab at NC State. One team, Raleigh Swimming Association (RSA), is making a special effort to take part in spite of already having planned a fundraising event of their own for the day. RSA is hosting a 5K competitive race and fun run that morning to raise money for their team and the renovation of their new home, the William H. Sonner Aquatic Facility. The RSA Senior swimmers are participating in their 5K, helping with the 1 Mile kids race and then heading over to NC State to spend the afternoon as volunteers for Swim Across America. They will be helping with registration, counting laps for the indoor open water swim, and swimming as “angels” along side cancer patients and younger swimmers that would like escorts.
While it was already a busy day for the team, once they met with the Raleigh Swim Across America Director, Mary DeMilia, it was clear that the Swim Across America mission was one that they wanted to support. SAA is not only raising money for cancer research, but specifically supporting the important and ground breaking research being done right here at NC State. Head Coach Brent St. Pierre said, “These are such great kids and they have so much to offer… This is a disease that will, unfortunately, likely touch each of them in some way at some point in their lives. It is really important to them to give back and be a part of the fight against cancer.”
RSA has set up a fundraising team and will be out enforce on September 21st to help with the event in any way they can. Raleigh SAA Director, Mary DeMilia said:
“I AM VERY EXCITED TO HAVE RSA HELP WITH SWIM ACROSS AMERICA. IT AMAZES ME THAT THEY ARE RUNNING THEIR 5K FUNDRAISER THAT MORNING AND THEN HEADING OUT TO OUR EVENT!”
