MEN’S 200 BACKSTROKE – FINALS
Ryan Lochte took it out very strong for the first 100 of his 200 back. He went into the 150 with a .8 second lead ahead of Ryan Murphy and Tyler Clary. Tyler Clary powered through his final 100 to win the race with his time of 1:54.73. That will book him his ticket to the Gold Coast for the Pan Pac Championships. Ryan Murphy had enough of just missing making the team. He finished in the top 2 for the first time, earning himself a roster spot on the Pan Pacs team as well. He finished with a time of 1:55.99. Ryan Lochte finished third at 1:56.47, which isn’t the worst thing in the world for him, as he is already on the Pan Pac’s team and can go for a faster time again in a few weeks.
Jacob Pebley finished fourth with his time of 1:56.68, followed by Connor Green in fifth and 1:67.60.Carter Griffin finished 6th with his time of 1:58.87.
Sean Lehane and Jonathan Robers were 6th and 7th at 1:59.01 and 1:59.78.
It came down to three in the b-final of the men’s 200 backstroke. Robert Owen got his hand on the wall first for the win with his time of 1:59.78. Jack Conger was second with his time of 1:59.90 andDrew teDuits was third at 1:59.96.
Curtis Ogren won the C-final of the men’s 200 backstroke with his time of 2:00.86.

Monster last 50 for Clary!
As I didn’t watch the race live, I was wildly wondering reading the endless criticism by so many people in the day 2 live recap thread about Clary’s reaction after winning this event.
And when I watched the above youtube and saw Clary’s reaction after the race, I was like “whaaaattt…??? this is what made those people so upset..???”
Wow.. some people are sooooo sensitive or they have deep seated hatred for Clary that they got so upset with such display.
After London, Clary has not been to his best, and now he had just beat the defending world champion and the future star of US backstroke and he’s back to around one second of his best time, so… Read more »
I´ve wachted too it seems people want everyone to show the minimum amount of emotion ever.. can´t get WHY this.. I prefer someone like Clary and Cielo going overboard than someone who just barely waves to the crowd and do not let out the feelings inside..
Agreed. The rationale presented in that other thread is absurd. Tyler had a great race and gave us the only decent time of the night, when most people (myself included) thought there was no way he’d beat Ryan Murphy. He had every right to get pumped up about it.
It sounds like Tyler may not be swimming the 400 IM; he said in the interview after his race that Coach Marsh told him that he’s, “…back in training mode.”
Backstroke legend Aaron Peirsol to present the medals! 😎 😎 😎 😎
