Quah, Epitropov, Peribonio Scratch A-Finals at PSS Mission Viejo Friday

Three men have forfeited their places in A-finals today at the first full finals session in Mission Viejo.

Zheng Quah of Cal Aquatics is the only one of the three who has a different event to focus on this morning. Quah was in the 200 free A-final, but he scratched to focus on the 100 fly A-final. Quah’s scratch put Ryan Lochte (Gator Swim Club) into the B-final in lane eight after he was 17th in prelims.

Lyubomir Epitropov (University of Tennessee) set a new Bulgarian record in the 100 breast prelims, going 1:00.32 to qualify second to today’s final, but he won’t contest that tonight. Tom Peribonio of Gator Swim Club qualified through to the 400 IM A-final in third (4:21.95), but he’s also scratched his place. Their absences move Gator Swim Club’s Nils Wich-Glasen into the 100 breast A-final and Etay Gurevich (unattached) into the 400 IM A-final.

Melanie Margalis (St. Petersburg Aquatics/Georgia) and Brooke Forde (Alto Swim Club) have both scratched out of the 200 free B-final to focus on the 400 IM A-final, where they’re in lanes two and six, respectively. Their scratches move Robin Neumann (unattached) and Claire Tuggle (Santa Maria Swim Club) into the B-final of the 200 free. Tuggle meanwhile, scratched out of the 400 IM B-final.

The other scratch came in the 400 IM B-final, as 800 free runner-up Will Gallant of Mission Viejo Nadadores relinquished his spot. Gallant has no other races this morning.
