Puerto Rican Olympian Miriam Sheehan returned to action in January, swimming in only her third meet since the Olympics in Tokyo. Sheehan, who swam the 100 free and 100 fly at the Olympics (finishing 38th and 31st, respectively), went best times in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, and the 100 fly at the LMST Winter Whiteout in Marion, IA.

Sheehan was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, and trained with the Phoenix Swim Club for most of her career and leading up to the Olympics. She now swims for Dubuque Area Swimmin’ Hurricanes in Iowa. Sheehan, who is 17, has yet to publicly commit to a college program.

Sheehan posted a time of 53.06 in the 100 back, a personal best and the 15th fastest in the 17-18 age group this season. She was exactly one second under her time from her first club meet this season in November, the DASH Giving Thanks Invite.

Her time at the same meet in the 50 free was a 22.63, another personal best and ranking her 21st this season. Sheehan swam a 23.18 at the November club meet.

In her Olympic events, Sheehan went a 50-flat in the 100 free and 53.71 in the 100 fly. Sheehan currently sits at 53rd in the age group in the free, and her fly is the 28th fastest in the age group this season. In the 100 free, she started the season with a 51.16, and in the fly she started the season with a 53.88 at the DASH Giving Thanks Invite.

Sheehan still holds several NAG records in the 10 & under age group. She holds the 10 & under short course yards records in the 50 back, 100 back, and 50 fly. For long course, she holds the 10 & under records in the 50 back, 100 back, 50 fly, and 100 fly.
