WOMEN’S RECAP:
Ohio State’s Kathrin Demler won a pair of individual events for the Buckeyes. Demler first won the 200 fly, touching in 2:01.08 for a new season best. She then went on to win the 200 IM, clocking another season best of 2:02.98. Demler also came in 2nd in the 400 IM after a tight race with teammate Katie Trace. Despite winning the 200 fly, Demler was only 1:00.21 on the fly split of the IM, compared to 57.95 from Trace. Demler then kicked it into gear, out-splitting Trcae 1:04.34 to 1:06.44 on backstroke, and 1:14.61 to 1:14.92 on breaststroke. Trace came home in 58.59 to Demler’s 58.78, beating Demler 4:17.90 to 4:17.94.
Penn State’s Maddie Cooke posted a very fast 21.97 to anchor the Nittany Lions’ 200 medley relay to victory. Marie Schobel lead the relay off in 26.16, and was followed by Carly Hart (27.96), Maddie Hart (24.33), and was anchored by Cooke for a 1:40.42. Cooke also won the 50 free in a season best of 22.81, breaking 23 seconds for the first time this season.
Carly Hart was a force in the breaststroke events. Hart won the 200 breast with a 2:14.30, establishing a new season best by 2 seconds and beating runner-up Hanna Gresser (Ohio State) by .60 seconds. Gresser got the better of Hart in the 100 breast, winning the event with a 1:01.69, compared to Hart’s 1:01.84.
Penn State hit a 1-2 punch in the 200 free, with freshman Abigail Amdor winning the race in 1:49.94, and Camryn Barry coming in 2nd in 1:50.55. Nittany Lions also won the 100 fly, where Maddie Hart clocked a 54.47 for a new season best. Also winning for PSU was Stephanie Szekely in the 200 back, touching in 1:59.18, just .01 seconds off her season best.
MEN’S RECAP:
Virginia Tech swept the men’s meet, with Ohio State also come up victorious against Penn State. VT was helped by sophomore star Blake Manoff, who won both his individual events and helped 2 relays to victory, as well as 2 relays to 2nd place finishes. Manoff won the 100 free in a very tight race with Buckeyes Cameron Craig and Drew Loy, and Penn State’s Will Roberson. Manoff was out in 21.05, out-pacing everyone in the field except Roberson (21.04). Manoff came home in 23.33, with Craig (23.12) and Loy (23.06) out-splitting him, but coming up short. Manoff ultimately touched first in 44.38, with Craig next in at 44.56, then Roberson in 44.59, and Loy in 44.68. Manoff also went on to win the 100 fly in 47.13, clearing the field by well over a second.
Manoff also helped the VT 400 medley and 200 free relays to victory. In the 400 medley, Manoff provided a quick 46.67 fly split, giving his squad a full 1.5 second advantage over the next fastest flyer in the field. Samuel Tornqvist ld the relay off in 49.48, followed by Simon Shi (55.30) on breast, Manoff on fly, and Thomas Hallock (44.16) on free for a final time of 3:15.61. In the 200 free relay, Manoff split 19.75 on the 2nd leg, which was the fastest split in the entire field. Hallock led that relay off in 20.38, followed by Manoff, then Alex Hines (20.12), and Henry Claesson (20.78) for a final time of 1:21.03. Manoff also split 21.27 on the fly leg of the 200 medley relay, which was the fastest split in the field. In the 400 free relay, Manoff clocked a 44.91 lead-off leg, helped VT to another 2nd place finish.
Penn State’s Will Roberson had a big day for the Nittany Lions. Aside from his 3rd place finish in the 100 free, Roberson won the 50 free in 19.78, becoming just the 11th swimmer to crack the 20 second mark in the NCAA this season, and establishing the 3rd fastest time in the NCAA this season. Additionally, Roberson anchored the PSU 400 medley relay in 43.57, which was both the fastest split in the field in the 400 medley, and would have been the fastest split in the 400 free relay.
Ohio State’s Jason Mathews swept the men’s breaststrokes. In the 200 breast, Mathews clocked a new season best of 1:59.58, breaking the 2:00 mark for the first time this season. He went on to swim a 54.44 in the 100 breast, also a season best. In the 100, OSU had a 1-2 punch, with Evan McFadden coming in 2nd with a 55.85. Mathews also provided the fastest breast split in the field in the 400 medley relay, coming in at 54.44, the same as he swam in the individual 100.
Penn State showed off its IM power, taking both the men’s 200 IM and 400 IM. The 400 IM was first up, with Michael Daly taking 1st with a 3:55.57 to win by 2.5 seconds. Daly also won the 1000 free with a 9:19.01, and the 500 free with a 4:28.43. Penn State also picked up a win in the 200 IM, with Hayden Harlow touching first in 1:49.75.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs finished victorious in three of the four competitions in a three-team, double dual meet against Penn State and Virginia Tech. The women went 2-0 on the weekend while the men dropped the meet versus the Hokies.

“I am very proud of our team’s focus over the past two days,” Bill Dorenkott, director of men’s and women’s swimming and diving, said. “Our staff put the team in a position where they were going to have to fight for everything they got. Our successes this weekend were well earned.”
The Buckeye women, nationally ranked at No. 24 this week, started out with a second place finish on the 1-meter springboard as Mackenzie Crawford finished with a score of 267.55.Genevieve Angerame and Lexie Barker rounded out the Top 5 in the event with scores of 257.65 and 255.55, respectively.
On day two of competition the Ohio State women tallied three first place finishes. Molly Kowal touched first in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:00.91, over eight seconds ahead of the second place finisher. In the 100 breaststroke, Hanna Gresser picked up her first win of the weekend with a time of 1:01.69.
The Ohio State women swept 1-2-3 in the 400 individual medley as Katie Trace finished first (4:17.90) followed by Kathrin Demler (4:17.94) and Kristen Romano (4:23.23).
On the men’s side, Ohio State, the No. 8-ranked team in the nation, went one-two on the 3-meter springboard event with Jacob Fielding taking first with a score of 357.55 and Jacob Siler finishing second at 357.25. Lyle Yost just missed out on a podium finish but picked up fourth with 336.30.
Jason Mathews recorded the only individual first place finish for the men on day two of competition in the 100 breast (54.44). He was followed by Evan McFadden at second with a time of 55.85. Four swimmers notched second place finishes including Cameron Craig (50 free), Thomas Watkins (200 back), Andrew Loy (200 free), and Jason Mathews (200 IM).
In relays, Ohio State’s “A” teams finished first in both the women and the men as Amy Fulmer, Freya Rayner, Rebekah Bradley and Taylor Petrak finished at 1:32.04 in the 200 free and Andrew Loy, Sem Andreis, Matthew Abeysinghe and Cameron Craig swam to victory with a time of 2:57.18 in the 400 free.

PRESS RELEASE – VIRGINIA TECH:
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 24 Virginia Tech men’s swimming and diving team picked up a pair of big wins this weekend as the Hokies downed No. 8 Ohio State 185-168 as well as RV Penn State, 205.5-145.5.
Tech’s women faltered to both, falling to No. 24 Ohio State, 247-106 and Penn State, 216.5-136.5.
HOKIES MEN
The men opened the second session with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as Sam Tornqvist, Simon Shi, Blake Manoff and Thomas Hallock posted a time of 1:28.87.
In the 500 free, Lane Stone turned in a third place 4:29. Stone went on to claim the title in the 200 freestyle later in the meet as he posted a time of 1:37.92. Hallock added a third-place 20.35 in the 50 free.
Tornqvist turned in his second win of the weekend as he claimed the top spot in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:46.66. Dylan Eichberg placed third in the 200 IM with a 1:51.05.
Manoff also posted his second win of the weekend on Saturday as he took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.13 to set a new McCoy Natatorium record. His teammate Antani Ivanov took third with 48.57.
The Hokies’ Noah Zawadzki claimed third in the 3-meter with a score of 353.15.
Tech wrapped up the session with a second place-finish in the 400 free relay off swims from Manoff, Hallock, Henry Claesson and Stone with a time of 2:58.52.
HOKIES WOMEN
Tech’s women started the session in the 400 medley relay, placing fourth in the field with a 3:45.02 from Margarita Ryan, Joelle Vereb, Kayla Purcell and Sarah Shackelford.
Loulou Vos put in a fifth-place time in the 1000 free, swimming a 10:14.94 for the Hokies. Following her was Anna Landon in the 50 free, notching a fourth-place finish with a time of 23.74.
Ryan continued her strong start to the season as she finished third in the 200 backstroke with a mark of 2:00.48. Freshman Jenna Thompson came in fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:03.16 for Tech.
Another freshman off to a solid start this season, Rose Pouch turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.77. In the 100 fly, Kayla Purcell swam a 55.84 to place fourth in the event.
The Hokies had a solid performance in diving today with Teagan Moravek claiming the top spot in 1-meter with a score of 286.70. Regan Westwood finished third for the Hokies with 260.40.
Tech wrapped up the day finishing third in the 200 free relay with a 1:33.08 from Vereb, Landon, Shackelford and Abigail Andrusin.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the first session of competition on Friday evening against Penn State and Ohio State in University Park, Pennsylvania.
The Tech men started off the session with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay as Sam Tornqvist, Simon Shi, Blake Manoff and Thomas Hallock put up a time of 3:15.61. The Hokies finished over a second faster than the quartet from Penn State.
Tech followed up with a two, three finish in the 1000 freestyle behind Filippo Dal Maso’s 9:23.08. Lane Stone came in third with a time of 9:24.58. Dal Maso claimed another second-place finish later in the meet, turning in a 3:58.09 in the 400 IM.
Antani Ivanov led the Hokies in the 200 fly with a time of 1:45.97 and was followed by freshman Ryan Vipavetz with a second place time of 1:49.37. Another freshman claimed a top-three finish as AJ Pouch took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.65) with senior Simon Shi coming in third (2:01.87).
Manoff took the top spot in the 100 freestyle with a 44.38 while Sam Tornqvist nabbed first in the 100 backstroke, 49.02.
The Hokies wrapped up the session with the top finish in the 200 free relay behind Manoff, Hallock, Henry Claesson and Alex Hines with a time of 1:21.03.
HOKIES WOMEN
Tech finished just outside the top-three in the opening relay event as Margarita Ryan, Joelle Vereb, Kayla Purcell and Anna Landon tallied a fourth place 1:42.13.

PRESS RELEASE – PENN STATE WOMEN:
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s swimming & diving team defeated Virginia Tech, 216.50- 136.50, but fell to No. 24 Ohio State, 198-155 for their “Military Appreciation” meet on Saturday at home. This was the team’s first meet against a ranked opponent this season.
Despite the narrow loss, the women stole the show in day two with four event winners on top of one Friday event winner, two event sweeps in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke, in addition to two pool records in the 200 and 400 medley relays. The atmosphere was energetic with fans and the Nittany Lion mascot in attendance.
Top Swims
Junior Carly Hart, junior Maddie Cooke, senior Maddie Hart, junior Stephanie Szekely, and freshman Abbie Amdor all secured event wins throughout the meet, with Carly Hart winning the 200 breaststroke (2:14.30) for the second meet in a row on day one and Cooke winning the 50 free (22.81) on day two. Carly Hart also placed second in the 100 breast (1:01.84) while Cooke placed third (1:02.64) in the same race. Carly Hart has yet to lose the 200 breast this season and Cooke swam the ninth-fastest time in Penn State history in the 50 free and missed the NCAA B-Cut time by only 5 one-hundredths of a second.
Maddie Hart also had some great swims in day two, winning the 100 butterfly (54.47), placing second in the 100 back (55.22) and third in the 200 fly (2:01.30). Szekely won the 200 back (1:59.18) and placed third in the 400 IM (4:24.98). Amdor continued to show her dominance in free sprint events, touching first in the 200 (1:49.94) and second in the 100 (50.36).
Two more swimmers that placed second were Madison Murtagh in the 1000 free (10:08.34) and Camryn Barry in the 200 free (1:50.55). Marie Schobel continued swimming well in back, placing second in the 200 (1:59.52) and third in the 100 (55.29).
In addition, freshman Margaret Markvardt had her first third place finish in the 200 IM (2:05.00), which was also her season best in the race.
Top Dives
On the boards, senior Christina Crowell got a personal best in the 3-meter dive on day one with a score of 299.35. She also participated in the 1-meter dive on Saturday.
Nittany Lion Relays
The women had a record-breaking meet for relays. To open the meet on day two, the women won the 400 medley relay with a pool record time of 3:40.79, building off their 200 medley relay (1:40.42) win and pool record time on day one. The 400 medley winning team consisted of Marie Schobel, Carly Hart, Maddie Hart, and Amdor, and the 200 medley winning team also had Schobel, Carly Hart, Maddie Hart and Maddie Cooke. The women also placed third in the 400 free relay on day two (3:32.31) with Olivia Jack, Cooke, Elizabeth Gaspari, and Amdor.

The team sported red, white, and blue suits to honor service members for their Military Appreciation meet.
Top Swims
Michael Daly led the team with three event wins in the two-day meet. On Saturday, Daly secured the win in his first event of the day, the 500 freestyle (4:28.43) in addition to touching third in the 200 free (1:39.63). During day one, Daly won both the 400 IM (3:55.57) and 1000 freestyle (9:19.01)
Junior, Hayden Harlow was a stand out for the Nittany Lions on Saturday morning. Harlow placed first in the 200 IM (1:49.75) and swam a personal best time in the 500 free, earning second place with a time of 4:28.54. Harlow had another top-three finish on Friday with a third-place touch in the 400 IM (3:58.12)
Adding to the event winners list, William Roberson swam a NCAA B-Cut qualifying time in the 50 free with a first-place time of 19.78. Roberson had two top-three individual finishes this weekend as he had a third-place touch on Friday in the 100 free (44.59).
In the last individual event of the meet, Juliusz Gosieniecki secured second place in the 100 fly (48.51). On Saturday, Junior Brad Johnson had a fourth-place finish in the 100 breast (56.09) and on Friday, Senior captain Liam Veregin earned a third place finish in the 100 back (49.65)
William Lulek swam a personal best time of 1:50.65 in the 200 back on Saturday and placed fourth on Friday in the 400 IM (3:58.37). In addition, Zac Zwijacz and Daniel Raisanen both had fourth-place finishes on Friday, with Zwijacz in the 200 fly (1:49.75) and Raisanen in the 200 breast (2:02.88)
Nittany Lion Relays
On Saturday, The Nittany Lions started out on the right note opening the meet with a win. The team of Veregin, Johnson, Gosieniecki, and Roberson won the 200 medley relay with a final time of 1:28.52. Clocking in with a time of 2:58.86, the team of Roberson, Matthew DiNunzio, Harlow, and Daly placed third in the 400 free relay, the last event of the meet.
On Friday, the team of Veregin, Harlow, Zwijacz and Roberson opened the meet with a second-place finish with a time of 3:16.66 in the 400 medley. To close out day one, the 200 free relay team of Roberson, DiNunzio, Veregin, and Gosieniecki tied for second with a final time of 1:21.20.
Top Dives
Bryce Hoch led Penn State divers both days, with a score of 286.50 in the 3-meter dive and 281.50 in the 1-meter dive on Friday. Sophomore, Jonah Cey followed Hoch with a score of 280.60 in the 3-meter dive.
