Women’s Recap

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women’s swimming & diving wrapped up the Big Al Invitational Sunday at DeNunzio Pool, emerging as winners with 1,080.50 points.

It was a hard-fought victory for the Tigers, as Utah came in second-place with 999 points.

The evening began for Princeton with the 1,650 freestyle, where Emily Appleton finished third in 16:43.85 and Nathalie Valdman tenth in 17:07.58.

Princeton advanced three to the A final of the 200 backstroke, with Isabella Korbly earning an NCAA B cut time of 1:56.69 and finishing third, Margaux McDonald finishing sixth in 1:58.57, and Meg Wheeler seventh in 1:58.87. Sabrina Johnston also took ninth with a time of 1:59.63, and Alexa Pappas 16^th with a time of 2:02.45.

The 100 freestyle was a strong event for the Tigers, as four swimmers made it to the A final. Amelia Liu touched the wall at 50.48 to finish second, Heidi Smithwick at 50.62 to finish fourth, Ela Noble at 51.03 to finish seventh and Caroline Lewitt at 51.22 to finish eighth.

Eliza Brown clocked in at 2:13.90 and earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.

In the 200 butterfly, Smithwick finished with a time of 2:01.60 to finish third, Jaime Chen 2:04.79 to finish sixth and Margaret Hayes 2:06.31 to finish 13^th.

Julia Fidanza earned a second-place finish in the platform diving with a score of 256.95, while Maddie Seltzer finished fifth after earning a score of 229.05. Both Fidanza and Seltzer earned NCAA Zone cuts. Charlotte Martinkus also came in eighth, earning a score of 201.70.

The night ended with a win in the 400 freestyle relay; the team of Johnston, Noble, Smithwick and Lewitt posted a time of 3:20.83 to earn the win. The quartet of Chen, Liu, Korbly and Wheeler also finished sixth after clocking in at 3:25.07.

Men’s Recap

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men’s swimming & diving team concluded the Big Al Invitational in a commanding first place with 1,178.50 points, Sunday at Denuznio Pool.

The Tigers’ closest competitor was Utah, who came in second with 875 points.

Princeton began the night by claiming the top two spots in the 1,650 freestyle; John Ehling finished in an NCAA B cut time of 15:08.17 to win the event, and Dylan Porges, who also earned an NCAA B cut, finished in 15:09.37 to finish second.

In the 200 backstroke, another pair of Tigers earned NCAA B cuts. Tyler Hong touched the wall at 1:43.54 to finish third, and Brett Feyerick at 1:44.16 to finish fourth. Mitch Schott also finished 12^th in 1:46.54, and Billy Swartwout 15^th in 1:47.41 to finish 15^th.

Four Tigers made it through to the A final of the 100 freestyle, with Lucas Tudoras finishing second after clocking in at an NCAA B cut time of 43.44, Max Walther fourth at 43.98, Adell Sabovic fifth at 44.20 and Max Hunger seventh at 44.63. Kael Mlinek also came in 10^th with a time of 44.79, and Finn Dowdall 14^th with a time of 45.29.

Lucas Strøbek earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke after finishing in 1:58.60, and Joshua Brown earned a fifth-place finish after finishing in 1:58.75. James Pan also took ninth (1:59.47), Max Seidel 10^th (1:59.92) and Hunter Kim 14^th (2:01.20).

The 200 butterfly saw the Tigers earn the top-two spots, with Raunak Khosla earning an NCAA B cut and winning the event in 1:43.42, while Nicholas Lim also earned an NCAA B cut and finished second in 1:44.98. Peyton Werner finished 11^th in 1:47.84.

In the platform diving, Joe Victor finished second with an NCAA Zone cut score of 384.90. Taso Callanan also finished sixth, after earning a score of 282.20.

The night ended with the 400 freestyle relay, where the Tigers earned two out of the three top finishes. Tudoras, Feyerick, Khosla and Walther finished second in 2:53.82, while the team of Hunger, Sabovic, Swartwout and Lim finished third in 2:56.80.
