Poytakivi Sets New Finnish Record in the Men’s 50 Butterfly

Riku Poytakivi set a new Finnish record in the men’s 50 butterfly at the Finnish Short Course Championships. Poytakivi won the event in a time of 23.07, breaking his own record of 23.14 which he set last year. His time also places him third in the world rankings.

Poytakivi was not the only to break a national record in the event. 16-year old Niko Makela set a new youth national record in the prelims posting a time of 23.80. Makela finished tied for fourth in the finals with a time of 24.06.

Jenna Laukkanen continued to put up some impressive results winning the women’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.34, just off her season’s best of 1:05.02 which is currently the fastest time in the world. She also won the 200 IM in a time of 2:11.58 beating her season’s best of 2:11.61 and moves her up one spot in the world rankings into the fourth place position.

  • Women’s 100 butterfly – Fanny Teijonsalo – 59.55
  • Men’s 200 breaststroke – Matti Mattsson – 2:09.67
  • Women’s 800 freestyle – Laura Lajunen – 8:45.47
