The Glenallen School in Melbourne, Australia has named its pool in honor of Tim Disken, a former student at the school and Rio 2016 Paralympic champion. Disken, a 3-time Paralympic medalist, attended the school from 2011 to 2015. Now 20 years old, he won gold this summer in the men’s S9 100 meter free. He also earned a silver in the men’s S9 50 free and a bronze in the men’s SM9 200 meter IM.
Swimmers and administrators at the Glenallen School have praised Disken, citing his work ethic and leadership skills as a captain of the school’s swim team. Among those administrators was school principal Michael Cole.
“Tim embodied the school’s motto of achievement through active learning and we are all extremely proud of him. He was a hard working student who became school captain, supported other students and represented the school in the community. He has already achieved so much but I am sure he will go on to achieve even more.”
Administrators are hopeful that Disken’s acocmplishments will serve as an inspiration for other students at the school.
“Future students will swim in this pool knowing it was where it all started for a gold medal winning Paralympian.”
