Top-seeded Penny Oleksiak is no longer swimming the 100 free at this morning’s Pro Swim Series prelims in Des Moines.
The Canadian co-Olympic champ was the top seed, but no longer appears on heat sheets. The top seed will now fall to Margo Geer, who was second in this event at the Pro Swim Series opener in Knoxville. The winner was Simone Manuel, who tied with Oleksiak for the 2016 Olympic gold medal, but who is also not competing in Des Moines.
The other high seed to scratch is another Canadian – Faith Knelson, who was the fifth seed in the 100 breaststroke. The only other scratch out of the circle-seeded heats is Olivia Masterson, who swims for the in-state Iowa Flyers Swim Club.

Penny also did not swim the final in Knoxville, I do not understand, she is an Olympic medalist in 100 free, but she participates very little in 100 free, only her coach knows why she is not participating in 100 free, for the second time.
Favorite now: Kayla Sanchez (she and Taylor Ruck can take the place of penny in the world championship and participate in 100 free)
Penny did swim the final in Knoxville. She finished second to Simone but was disqualified. I’m puzzled as to why she’s scratched here though…

Penny has not given good results in 100 free, she is the only competitor of the 2016 Rio final that has not been able to exceed her time 52.70, almost 3 years have passed (I do not know what is the strategy of Penny and Ben Titley to change the situation.)
I hope she participates in butterfly(That means she is not injured)
I keep positive, maybe she does not participate today, but in the Canadian trials she surprises us. the Canadian trial is the next month.
I’m optimistic for Penny. Last year she changed training programs twice and I believe she missed her target taper meet when she withdrew from the Pan Pacs. I’m hoping she’s healthy and not injured in any way. She looked pretty good in Knoxville, so that’s a start. I also believe she’s in a program that works for her at HPC Ontario. Remember the last time she tapered in that program (2017) she swam a 52.9 100 free and 56 high 100 fly. Not quite her Rio performances but still pretty respectable. She’s still young too so could have lots of upside
I think Penny will not compete.
The HPC Ontario camp in Florida in February, penny arrived a week after the whole group.
We will see the penny results in the Canadian trials in April, but I think she will focus only on the relays.
Is she swimming with Ben Titley again? His swimmers do scratch a lot of events, I’ve noticed (nothing really to be taken from that – I just wouldn’t be that worried because they do it a lot).
