Peaty, Christou set new meet records in prelims, Euro Meet Luxembourg

Great Britain’s Olympic Champion and World record holder Adam Peaty set a new meet record in the 50 m breaststroke in the early morning heats in 27,02 – he swam the world record at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan with a time of 26,42. Philip Heintz  (GER) touched second in 28,78. Flavio Bizzarri will be the third seed tonight in 28,81.

Another meet record was set by Greece’s Apostolos Christou in the 100m backstroke in 54,19 – Ireland’s Shane Ryan was the previous meet record holder.

Sarah Sjöström was the fastest woman yesterday in the 50m backstroke prelims and she also clocked the fastest time in the 100m backstroke in 1:01,64 ahead of Germany’s Laura Riedemann (1:02,21) and Jenny Mensing (1:02,36). Katinka Hosszu came in fifth in 1:03,06.

Charlotte Bonnet (France) clocked a 2:00,42 in 200m freestyle and is the #1 seed for finals, Katinka Hosszu will be in the second seed tonight in 2:00,52 ahead of Reva Foos (GER) in 2:00,87.

Fastest women into the 50m breaststroke A final are: Sarah Vasey (GBR) in 30,93, Martina Carraro (ITA) in 31,44 and Jenna Laukkanen (FIN) in 31,46.

Duncan Scott set himself up as the #1 seed for the men’s 200m freestyle final, he clocked a 1:50,43. Germany’s Poul Zellmann will be in the second seed in 1:50,96 followed by Britain’s Nick Grainger in 1:51,00.

Top seed in the 200m IM is Katinka Hosszu in 2:11,58 ahead of Aimee Willmott (GBR) in 2:17,79 and Jenna Laukkanen (FIN) in 2:17,91. Hosszu finished close to her Euro Meet meet record she set last year in 2:10,70.

The top seed in the men’s 200m IM is Switzerland’s Jeremy Desplanches who hit the wall in a time of 2:04,10. The next-fastest swim in the morning heats came from Italy’s Giovanni Sorriso in 2:04,66. Raphael Stacchiotti (Luxembourg) came in with the 3rd fastest time in 2:04,74.

Top-seeded in the women’s 200m breaststroke is Molly Renshaw, she finished in 2:28,85, second fastest into the A final is Jessica Steiger (GER) in 2:31,27, followed by Katinka Hosszu (2:31,41).

World Champion Marco Koch (GER) set the fastest time in the men’s 200m breaststroke in 2:15,61 ahead of Max Pilger (GER) in 2:18,92 and a third German swimmer Nico Perner (2:19,74).

Sarah Sjöström (SWE) took the top spot for the women’s 50m freestyle final with a new meet record of 24,44. Silvia di Pietro (ITA) finished second in 25,06, followed by Nina Kost (GER) in 25,63.

Ben Proud (GBR) touched in 22,40 in the 50m freestyle the #1 seed for finals. Marco Orsi (ITA) will be in the second seed tonight in 22,41, Damian Wierling  swam the 3rd fastest time in the morning’s heats (22,55).
