On the third day of the State New Zealand Open Championships in Auckland paralympians Sophie Pascoe and Mary Fisher both set world records in the 50 butterfly in the heats and than again in the finals.
Fisher won the event in a time of 33.25 taking a full second off the world record she had set in the morning of 34.35 and almost two full seconds off the world record of 35.12 that she set in London.
Pascoe finished second improving her own world record by just under a second posting a time of 28.38 breaking the world record she set in the morning of 29.21 and improving the record she set in London by over a second.

“I went into a dark place at the end of last year and it took me about three months to get out of that,” Pascoe said.
“Getting back in the water and doing it in front of a home crowd, breaking world records, has showed me that I’m on track for worlds later this year.”
Later in the evening Fisher went on to win the 200 IM mixed category.
