Singaporean swimmer Pin Xiu Yip has been selected as her nation’s flag bearer at the 2016 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony in Rio. One of 11 athletes across 5 sports set to compete for Singapore at this summer’s Paralympic Games, Pin Xiu Yip will be participating in her 3rd Paralympic Games.
The 24-year-old won a gold and silver medal in the 50m back S3 and 50m free S3, respectively, in Beijing, and followed that up with two 4th place finishes in London. This past summer Pin Xiu Yip lit the pool on fire with 2 World Records while competing at the European Championships. She set new marks in both the 50m and 100m backstroke S2 events.
Of Singapore’s paralympic squad as a whole, the nation’s Chef de Mission Ho Cheng Kwee said, “The team of Para athletes we have selected have worked extremely hard to reach a level where they can compete against the best in the world.”
“It is my privilege to lead such a team. I hope they have the support of all Singaporeans when they compete in Rio.”
The Paralympics opening ceremony takes place on September 7th.
