At SwimSwam, we love cameras. We own several SLR cameras for our coverage of swimming. When we heard Brazilian Olympic Swimmer (and World Champion) JR deSouza was behind this new product, we rushed to find out more. JR sent us the press release below on his new company and his KickStarter campaign. (NOTE: JR deSouza/Outex is not a swimswam.com partner, however, JR is former world-class swimmer, and we are hopeful for his future success in launching this new product which has competitive swimming applications.)
Outex has grown it’s professional photographer fan base across multiple continents over the last 2 years. SLR video demand has been high and Outex ignited a flurry of interest and excitement this week when it introduced its video solution for all major SLR camera brands.
“We’ve been working with award-winning photographers from National Geographic, Red Bull, Outdoor and Surf magazines, as well as members of the US armed forces,” said JR deSouza, one of the company’s founders, “but demand for video has been high, and the new Outex LCD/Video viewfinder matches the seamless transition between still and video capabilities of today’s cameras.”
Outex is being adopted by outdoor and adventure photographers for a host of applications; surfing, wedding, military, kayaking, camping, climbing, fashion, swimming, etc. Outex products are ideal for outside photography, because they completely isolate exterior elements from the camera, while maintaining operational control and maximizing tactile feedback. Because Outex is lightweight and compact, it can accompany the photographer year round anywhere the camera goes tucked in a case pocket, and installed when needed in minutes.
Outex users include award-winning photographers from National Geographic, Red Bull, Outside Magazine, VOGUE, Illume Award Winners, and members of the military.
Outex announced it’s video product through a Kickstarter project at http://kck.st/Ztt9SK, and blew past it’s goal in less than one week’s time. The project is scheduled to conclude at the end of March.
About Lucare Corp.
Outex is a registered brand of Lucare Corporation, based in Los Angeles California. The patented product design was developed by cousins JR deSouza and Roberto Miglioli, both enthusiast photographers and outdoorsmen. Their passion for photography was in part influenced by JR’s father, who loved taking pictures and collected antique cameras as a hobby. JR is a former swimmer and serial entrepreneur, having launched multiple brands and products in Silicon Valley and Hollywood. Roberto is an industrial engineer specializing in precision design and mechanical fabrication.
“There are benefits to point and shoot or GoPro cameras,” says Roberto, “but they do not offer the quality, resources, or imaging and functional controls of an SLR. From a housing perspective, solutions fall into 2 categories: bags and cases. Bags are cheap and clumsy, and so are the results. Hard cases yield good photo results, but are bulky, heavy, and start around $1,400 dollars. Outex is an affordable alternative combining the best of each world: professional results, light weight, compact size, and functional control.”
Outex works with most SLR cameras by major manufacturers:
Cameras; Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, Panasonic, Leica, Fuji, etc.
Lenses; Canon, Nikon, Nikkor, Pentax, Sony, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Olympus, Leica, Carl Zeis, Panasonic, Samung, Samyang, etc
A complete listing of working products and accessories is available online, and automates the purchasing process based on user’s selections. http://store.outex.com

José Carlos deSouza Jr.- aka JR deSouza – is a former international elite swimmer from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who participated at the 1992 Summer Olympics for his native country. At the 1992 Olympics he netted a sixth place finish in the men’s 4×100 m freestyle relay. He won a gold medal in the same event at the inaugural FINA World Short Course Championships in 1993.
