The 2015 Danish National Championships continued today, with the key players continuing to make their marks.
After having already won the 400m freestyle, 1500m freestyle and 400m IM events earlier in the competition, Anton Ipsen racked up his fourth individual victory tonight in the 800m freestyle. Clocking a 8:01.95, Ipsen dominated the field by almost 23 seconds on his way to winning the title. The time is just off the 8:00.65 he logged in Barcelona last June. Ipsen still has the 200m freestyle on his schedule for tomorrow’s prelims.
The women’s 200m breaststroke race also saw its winner touch the wall in a relative giant margin, with Rikke Moller Pedersen finishing in a time of 2:25.31 to top the field by almost 7 seconds. This was a mild swim from Pedersen, as she currently ranks as the 2nd-fastest woman in the world with the 2:21.58 she clocked at Mare Nostrum in Barcelona. Only Japan’s Kanako Watanabe has been faster thus far this year.
Butterfly ace Viktor Bromer got the job done in the men’s 200m butterfly, winning the event in a super swift 1:55.69. The swim ranks as the 11th-fastest of 2015, however, Bromer already holds the world’s 8th-fastest mark of 1:55.39 from the Danish Open. Bromer’s time today was less than half a second off of the Nordic and Danish record of 1:55.29, a time Bromer himself set last year.
It was a relief for fans worldwide to see Jeanette Ottesen not only in the pool, but rocking a monster swim to boot. Last month Ottesen and her boyfriend, swimmer Marco Loughran, were victims of a road rage incident, which left them both injured; Jeanette with a broken and sprained finger and Lougran with head trauma. For his part, Loughran tied for the gold earlier in the meet in the men’s 50m backstroke and today Ottesen took home gold in the 50m butterfly, registering a time of 25.68. After having just recovered from the ordeal, Ottesen remarkably threw down the 3rd-fastest 50m butterfly time in the world, just off the 25.48 she earned at the Danish Open in March. Ottesen now owns the 2nd and 3rd-fastest times in the world in the event.
I just read The Daily Mail article ( June 24 ) about the ‘attack’ which now has Marco being pulled off the guy by witnesses & other flourishes of Marco’s pugilistic skills . Then I read the comments – of which there was one ‘ Never heard of him ‘ .
Very few DM articles have just one comment , there is usually someone up for some fun or grief voyeurism . Seems Marco has not convinced his countrymen of his bravery even with 2 nice pics of Jeannette.
