Tyler Sesvold from Chicago, Illinois, has given his “official commitment” to swim for the Alabama Crimson Tide as part of the Class of 2021.
He made his announcement via his Instagram account:

Sesvold is an elite sprinter who swims for St. Charles Swim Team and Wheaton Academy. At the Illinois High School Association State Championship this past February, he was the runner-up in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 49.98. More impressively, Sesvold achieved his Olympic Trials cut this summer in the 100 meter back, and also has a U.S. Open cut in the 100 meter butterfly.
His best times are:
Event | SCY | LCM |
50 Free | 20.90(r) | 24.35 |
100 Free | 46.66(r) | 53.59(r) |
100 Back | 49.11 | 56.92 |
100 Fly | 49.22 | 55.28 |
Sesvold will feel right at home on the Alabama men’s team, which has surged in the Southeastern Conference as of late, and established itself as an elite corps of sprinters. Despite losing NCAA Champion Kristian Gkolomeev a year early, the Tide will still have Laurent Bams (42.39 in 100 free at the 2016 NCAAs) and Luke Kaliszak (45.42 in 100 back/45.18 in 100 fly) on its roster when Sesvold arrives next fall. Sesvold may also be able to help fill the void left by the school record-holder and NCAA runner-up in the 100 back, Connor Oslin (45.08), who is currently a senior.
Sesvold joins Sam Disette, Alex Robinson, Andrey Tretyakov, Christian Strycker and Michael Burris as commitments to Alabama’s Class of 2021.
