Florida State University has received a verbal commitment from The Peddie School’s Nika Blank. Swimming for Peddie Aquatics Association at Summer Junior Nationals in San Antonio, Blank broke the New Jersey state record in the 50m free with her 8th-place finish of 25.83.
Blank has been rapidly improving in the sprint free over the past two years. She only first qualified for Juniors in the summer of 2014; a year later she was an “A” finalist in the event and headed to 2016 Olympic Trials. In between, Blank won the 50 yard free at the Easterns Championships last winter and was named to the MAPL All-Academic Team.
SCY | LCM | |
50 free | 23.51 | 25.83 |
100 free | 51.47 | 57.32 |
200 free | 1:53.78 | 2:08.37 |
100 back | 58.20 | 1:07.39 |
200 back | 2:07.26 | 2:23.87 |
It took a 23.0 to get a second swim at 2015 ACC Conference Championships, but if Blank continues to develop she will be a big contributor to the Seminoles’ sprint free squad, joining the deep group of freshmen who came in this year.
“From the start I was trying to find a place that I could see myself being happy at for four years, add a super awesome team and coaches to the mix and I knew FSU was the place I was meant to be at. Everything about the school seemed to fit me exactly and I’m super excited for the next four years!”
