Artur Ostvath, Missouri State

Sophomore Artur Osvath had a stellar weekend at the Bears Kansas double dual, grabbing four first-place finishes as well as two relay victories. Along with six victories, the sophomore also broke two records at Robinson Natatorium in the 100yd fly and 200yd breast held by Kansas greats and former Olympic Champions. Osvath broke former Olympic champion Ian Crocker’s record with a time of 48.72 seconds, which currently ranks first in the MAC and 28^th in the nation. Later, the sophomore would go on to break the record of another former Olympic champion, Brendon Hansen, with a 1:59.56 run in the 200yd breast. Osvath’s time in the 200yd breast also ranks first in the MAC as well as fourth in the nation, meeting the B standard. To go along with his two record-breaking performances, Osvath placed first in the 100yd breast (55.90) and 200yd IM (1:50.40), bringing in the most individual victories for the Bears. Along with his individual victories, Osvath was also a part of two, Bear relays that took first over the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Osvath swam the third leg of the 200yd medley relay that recorded a first-place time of 1:32.63. The Budapest, Hungary native kicked off the 200yd free relay (1:32.63) as the first leg, giving the Bears a commanding lead over the Fighting Hawks.

Other Men’s Nominees

Charles Barry, Buffalo
Senior, Hartsdale, NY/Iona Preparatory School

Event & Time: 400 IM (4:00.09), 500 Free (4:37.39),

Charles Barry won two individual events on Saturday against Cornell: 400 IM and 500 Free. The senior clocked in at 4:00.09 in the 400 IM, beating second place by exactly nine seconds. His first place time of 4:37.39 in the 500 Free was over four seconds faster than the second place finish from Cornell.

Tosh Kawaguchi, Eastern Michigan
Sophomore, Cary, NC/Cary

Sophomore Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) continued his dominating start to the 2016-17 season in Eastern Michigan’s 191-104 win over Denison University, Oct. 22. Kawaguchi began the afternoon leading off EMU’s 200 Medley Relay team, helping the Eagles to a first-place finish. Kawaguchi remained perfect in the backstroke, sweeping the 100 and 200. After clocking in with a first-place finish in the 100 back, Kawaguchi touched in with a season-best time of 1:49.43 in the 200 back to take the top spot. He is now 4-for-4 in backstroke events this season. The Cary, N.C. native also shaved more than a second off of his 200 IM time from a week ago, to claim second-place in the event.

Justin Andrews, Miami

Xavier – 800-yard Freestyle Relay, 6:56.34; 200-yard Freestyle, 1:42.08; 500-yard Freestyle, 4:44.46

Freshman Justin Andrews has been a key contributor for the RedHawks this season. This weekend he won three events and finished in the top five in two others. Andrews finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle at Purdue, clocking in with a time of 9:43.46. He also placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.17). Andrews shined against Xavier on Saturday. He won two individual events, the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.08) and 500-yard freestyle (4:44.46). He also was a part of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 6:56.34.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Ella Moynihan, Miami
Sophomore, Denver, Co./Arapahoe

Event and Time: Purdue – 200-yard Freestyle, 1:51.06; 400-yard Freestyle Relay, 3:31.11; 500-yard Freestyle, 4:58.62
Xavier – 800-yard Freestyle Relay, 7:46.59, 1000-yard Freestyle, 10:10.33; 50-yard Freestyle, 24.48

Ella Moynihan has made a splash for the Red & White since transferring from Notre Dame. She finished the weekend against Purdue and Xavier with four first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. Against Purdue on Friday, Moynihan was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.06) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:31.11). She took silver in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.62). On Saturday against Xavier, Moynihan led a Miami sweep of the 1000-yard freestyle (10:10.33). Her time was 21 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She was also victorious in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:46.59) and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.48).

Sophie Bader, Ball State
Freshman, Portland, Ind./Jay County High School

Event & Time: 200 IM, 2:10.75; 100 Butterfly, 57.84; part of the 200 medley relay, 1:46.11 (24.03), 2^ndplace

As a true freshman, this was Sophie’s first regular season collegiate swim meet and she did not disappoint with her impressive performances. Her performances helped lead the Cardinals to a second place finish out of the eight teams competing at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet.

Megan Burns, Buffalo
Junior, Rochester, NY/Rush Henrietta Sperry

Event & Time: 50 Free, 22.89; 100 Free, 50.58; 200 Medley Relay 1:45.69

Megan Burns had an impressive showing in the first meet of the season, taking home first in three different events: 50 Free, 100 Free, and 200 Medley Relay. Her 200 Medley Relay team clocked in at 1:45.69, nearly one second faster than second place. Her time of 22.89 in the 50 Free was just 0.7 seconds slower than her school record achieved last year at the MAC Championships. Burns also clocked in at 50.58 in the 100 Free to take away first, beating second by nearly three seconds.

Delaney Duncan, Eastern Michigan
Sophomore, Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg

Event & Time: 1^st – 100 Breaststroke – 1:03.88, 1^st – 200 Breaststroke – 2:20.72, 1^st – 200 Medley Relay – 1:42.76

Sophomore Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) paced the Eastern Michigan University swimming & diving team to an impressive 198-99 win over Denison University, Oct. 22. Duncan picked up three wins, two individual and one relay, to lead the way for the Green and White. The Galesburg, Ill. native swept the breaststroke events, in EMU’s first meet of the season. In the 100 breast, Duncan touched in nearly two seconds ahead of the competition to claim first with a time of 1:03.88. Then, in the 200 breast, Duncan completed the sweep. The sophomore breaststroker also swam the second leg of EMU’s first-place 200 Medley Relay team.

Mikayla Herich, Ohio

Event & Time: 400-yard Medley Relay: 3:50.81, 200-yard Freestyle: 1:52.27, 500-yard Freestyle: 4:58.01

Mikayla Herich helped lead the Bobcats to a win against the Youngstown State Penguins Saturday (Oct.22). As a freshman, she started her collegiate career with three straight first place wins as the second leg in the 400-yard Medley Relay, 3:50.81, in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:52.27 and in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:58.01.
