This week, Chris and Garrett start the discussion with some stellar swims on the first couple nights of the NCSA Junior National Championships, including NAG records from Simone Manuel and Kylie Stewart, as well as outstanding swims from Becca Mann. Finishing behind Manuel in her record breaking 100 freestyle was Lia Neal and Janet Hu, which brings up an interesting conversation on diversity within USA Swimming.
With one week until the start of the Women’s NCAA Championships, you know that these two would get into some topics like the selection process, how low Breeja Larson will go in the breaststroke events, and the chances of the Cal Bears defending their team title. As always there are some side-tracked chats like conspiracy theories on the new Teri McKeever streamline and Chris’s upcoming move to Denmark. All that on this week’s Open Turn!

The new NCAA rules governing entries will make for a dramatically better meet. There are NO negatives. With one sex at each meet, warm-up and warm-down should be fine. It is the best thing that has happened to that meet in many years.

Chris, sit further back from that camera, we don’t need to have an up close and too personal view of your built-for-radio looks. If you are going to learn anything from Braden, it’s on keeping that mug further from the viewing public…
I would think another person of interest in this streamline topic might be Bob Gillett? Is there more power production by opening the hands up that offsets the increased resistance? Is there less tension and subsequently less fatigue from not holding as tight a streamline? Are the hands close enough together to break the waters path and not hit the head full on?
Garrett keeps on asking me to sit closer! I think he’s trying to make me look bad.

1 person does not make a team. Does she add speed? Absolutely… but the bears will need to develop talent they have there instead of relying on a couple girls to carry the weight
