Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Cameron Luarde, a high school junior from Fort Wayne, Indiana, has verbally committed to the University of Michigan.
Luarde finished 7th in both the 200 IM (1:50.39) and 100 breast (57.10) at the 2020 Indiana High School State Championship meet.
Luarde also excels in the 200 breaststroke and 400 IM, which are not high school events, and can swim all five 200 yard races at a high level. He was the Indiana Senior State Long Course runner-up in both the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, and is a 2020 Olympic Trials qualifier with a 2:17.79 in the 200 breast in long course.

Michigan has frequently reached across the border into Indiana for recruiting, and have recruited Fort Wayne especially well recently. Two current Michigan freshmen, Jack McCurdy and Noah Yarian, are both from Fort Wayne. Michigan also has the two best recruits from Indiana in the class of 2020, Jake Mitchell and Wyatt Davis, coming to Ann Arbor.
Reaching further back into the program’s history, National High School Record breaker Kyle Whitaker, who had a very similar skillset to Luarde, and his younger brother Aaron both matriculated to Michigan for their collegiate swimming.
Luarde’s best events fit right into Michigan’s recent wheelhouse. His top swims in the 400 IM are already Big Ten scoring quality (C-Final). At this year’s Big Ten Championships, Michigan went 1-2-3-6-8 in the 400 IM and 1-4-7 in the 200 breast, with swimmers like Tommy Cope and Charlie Swanson holding a very similar event lineup to Luarde.
Luarde is also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. He attends Homestead High School and trains with Summit City Aquatics.

When the best kids are leaving Indiana for Michigan, there must be a problem coaching wise or with team culture at IU. Do you hear that USC?
