Auburn University Assistant Coach Gideon Louw is a two-time Olympian who represented South Africa in both the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games. Prior to the London Olympics, Louw was a standout at both Indian River Junior College in Florida and at Auburn, where he returned as a member of the coaching staff in the fall of 2018.

At Auburn, Louw helped to establish the NCAA and U.S. Open Record in the men’s 200 yard freestyle relay, where alongside Jakob Andkjaer, Kohlton Norys, and Matt Targett, the Auburn quartet posted a 1:14.08, a mark that has stood since 2009.

Now, Louw coaches swimmers with their own Olympic aspirations and uses his own experiences from both the Olympics and the NCAA to mentor and prepare athletes training at Auburn.
